Fired this gun for the first time. Fired one mag and was about to install another and found the pin had walked out.
Was able to push it back in by hand. pin is  loose and does not stay in place. Do I need a new locking block and pin?
Is the slide release spring suppose to hold it in place? Help would be appreciated.

The slide stop lever holds both the trigger and locking block pins in place. If the assembly is done in the wrong order, the locking block pin will not be held by in place by the leg of the spring on the slide stop lever. The proper order is locking block pin first, slide stop lever second, and trigger pin last. The leg of the spring of the slide stop lever should rest on the locking block pin and not the locking block itself on three pin Glock pistols.

It's not necessary to remove both pins, in order to fix the problem, if the incorrect installation of the pins/slide stop lever is the problem.  Simply remove the slide stop lever by pressing in the trigger pin, left-to-right, while jiggling the slide stop fore-and-aft.  You don't need to push the trigger pin all the way out...only far enough to release the slide stop lever.  Place the slide stop lever where it should be, with the spring leg under the locking block pin, then press the trigger pin back in, right-to-left, again jiggling the slide stop lever a little fore-and-aft.  Could be that the bend angle of the slide stop spring needs to be more obtuse.

Thanks for the replies. The spring for the slide stop is under the pin so maybe the spring has seen better days. Was thinking of installing  an extended slide release and mag release anyway.
Guess this is a good time for it. Thanks

Shot in the dark, but maybe someone used a trigger housing pin instead.  Does the pin have two heads on either side or is it the same diameter all the way across?

Yes it has two heads on either side. I removed the slide release and I can see that the spring is worn. I'm going to replace those parts and mag release and see if that fixes the problem.

How old is it?

Don't know. Is there a way to tell? Bought it from aim, police trade in with original glock night sights which are barely glowing.

What is the serial number prefix (the alpha characters, not the numbers)?

AA - G-17 - October 1986 - 1st Gen

That's as old as they get. Post a pic of this thing!

I don't think you'd have a problem getting rid of that for a new one...  That is the first run of Glocks.  I'd about swap a new gun for it.

You're also talking about the "trigger" pin, that gun wouldn't have a locking block pin.   That pin should be uniform diameter the length of the pin with two grooves cut into it.

Do you mean FF and another alpha character behind that, like FFR or FFS (both G17 Gen3s)? Because FF alone is:

FF - G-17 - March 1989 - 1st Gen.

...still an old Gen1.

Yes FFS, thought just the first 2 mattered. It's one of the Austrian. police trade in's Aim was selling. Dropped in a new pin and extended slide release(Glock) and it's good
now. Got a extended mag release also but just need to get that installed. Need to figure out the spring. Then some new night sights. They have original Glock night sights on them now
that are not glowing. What is a 25 cent trigger job?

The 25 cent trigger job is polishing the mating surfaces of the firing mechanism.  I was doing that before there was a 25-cent trigger job.  Replacing the mag release is pretty simple, something that you can easily do.  Just remove the mag release spring with a small flat screwdriver and the release drops out.  Replacement is equally easy.
