The difference between a g17 gen 3 and gen 4 is about 40 bucks is it worth it? I like the gen 3 grip. And also will a g21 fit a g17 leather holster
Thanks! |

FWIW, on my 34 there wasn't any price difference between generations. I still went with the gen3. The holster question - It depends on the holster really. Your chances are better with it being leather. It may stretch, but until you can physically try it I'd go with no. |

You really need to hold one to appreciate the differences between a 3rd Gen and the new Gen4. I didn't think I would like the Gen4, until I actually held one. The butt is, IIRC, 2mm shorter, front to back, in the Gen4 without any back strap attached. With the smaller back strap attached, it is the same size as the earlier guns and, again IIRC, with the larger back strap attached, it is roughly the same size as the 10mm/.45 guns. For me, it made all the difference and I think that the Gen4 G22 I was just issued feels like a completely different gun than a 3rd Gen or earlier gun. I'm running it as it comes out of the box, no additional back strap attached. The difference is all to the good and, while I liked the way earlier Glocks fit me, I absolutely LOVE the way the Gen4 fits my hand. The new texture also feels great, not too rough, not too little, just right, and really anchors the gun in the hand when wet, sweaty, etc. I like it enough that I am now wishing that, when I bought my G19 back in Jan, I would have gotten a Gen4 instead of a 3rd Gen. I'd have to advise to actually hold a Gen4 before you buy and see if it works for you. If it does, you won't want an earlier generation!
