How are they for self defense? How much less recoil than a non ported model? Thanks

The recoil is slightly less than the comp keeps the barrel down . As for home defense I can't answer that. I hope that  I never have to use it that way!!!!!

They're loud.  Very loud indoors.  They wouldn't be my choice for HD.  I do have some and enjoy them but I wouldn't want to fire them indoors without ear protection.

it depends on the caliber and ammo you're using as far as comp effectiveness. I built a comp for my Glock 20 with a 45 degree deflection chamber. it works very well. there is almost no muzzle rise with factory Winchester Silvertips. the hotter you drive the bullet, the more effective the comp is. I make my own Kydex holsters, and it's no harder to CCW this than any other pistol. it is very damned loud indoors. right after I got it threaded and the locktite set up, I shot one round in our shops test chamber. I didn't stick the muzzle inside so I could see how much the muzzle would rise. even with good quality ear muffs, it was retardedly loud, but the muzzle didn't move much.that one round gave me a headache. recoil was just straight back into my palm. it will deafen you in a room with no hearing protection I promise you. I don't think a simple ported barrel would be much louder than normal though.

Obviously, keep flammable stuff away from the ports.

Sorry to hijack...does that red dot require milling of the slide or does it go in the factory dovetail? What sight is it?

Thanks!
