| Trying to remove the slide release pin on my G17 Gen4 to install an extended slide release. It just won't budge with a few taps from a hammer and punch. I didn't want to really wail on it––do I need to do that to get it to punch out? TIA for any comments. |

Remove the top pin FIRST........left to right
Put minimum pressure on the bottom pin, slide the release forward/ rearward slightly......when the hole is in alignment the pin will slide out..............left to right to install install the top pin first..........guides the wire spring into place............right to left install the slide stop lever into position install the bottom pin.....right to left.....look thru the hole to align everything, push the pin in with finger pressure ( maybe a little more ) |
| Well, I ended up kind of wailing on it, after watching a gunsmith video in which he said the first time the pin comes out it could take a little beating, as demonstrated in the video. Since the weapon is basically 1 month old, I figured that was the case. It did eventually come out, and the new slide release works great. |

I have a question: I get the left to right thing for tapered pins and dovetails, but why does it matter on a gun with untapered pins?
it doesn't, but will keep your mind on the same track as if it were a tapered pin/dovetail. that way you never screw up one. |

You're not automatically a "pro" just because you figured out how to upload a video to youtube...

Take a look at the trigger pin picture above. If you tried removing it right to left the 2nd notch in the pin can get hung up on the slide stop spring. Then you'll have to wiggle the slide stop around again to get it out of the 2nd notch. |
