My employer changed duty ammo recently to Federal HST 147Gn JHP. Obviously that means I needed to test fire for function and to make sure POA/POI stayed the same.

Tried the ammo in two guns. Gen 1 Glock 17 and Gen II Glock 19.

Fired 5-round offhand groups at 20 & 25 yards.

Glock 19:
25-yards  4.82"
20-Yards 4.02"

Glock 17:
25-Yards 4.19"
20-Yards 3.42"

This quick and dirty test certainly makes it appear that with this ammo I shoot the Glock 17 better than the Glock 19. Though both are probably accurate enough. With its preferred ammo my Glock 21 is way more accurate. Unfortunately I must use the ammo provided by my employer rather than ammo tailored for my guns.

Offhand I'd say that's plenty accurate.

Fwiw, that's keeping those groups inside of a -0 zone on an idpa  target. At those ranges I'd be happy.

I shoot a lot and consider myself a pretty decent shot. Except at 25 yards. At 15 I'm fine (never shot at 20). There's something about 25 that just gets me. I'd love to be able to shoot a sub 5" group at 25.

I'd say you're good to go with either one.

my G34 doesn't shoot much better than that, and I use aftermarket Heinie sights with a more refined sight picture, and probably lighter trigger ....the 147's will be more accurate...

Update

I've been trying to work out why I shoot my Glock 21 significantly better than my Glock 19 or 17. The only difference in the way the guns are set up is the G21 has the factory white dot front and white U rear and the 9's have meprolight night sights.

To see if the sights were effecting my accuracy i removed the meprolight sights from the Glock 17 and re-installed the factory sights.

Again, fired 5-round offhand groups at 20 & 25 yards. Same federal 147Gn ammo.

Glock 17:

25-Yards  3.87"
20-Yards  2.91"

Thats a significant improvement with the factory sights compared to the meprolight night sights. Still not in the same league as my G21 though which shoots 2.5" 25-yard groops offhand with 230Gn FMJ.

I shoot the dot/U-notch setup better than 3-dot as well. I'm stuck with 3-dot for my carry guns, but I like a Glock front night sight and Glock steel U-notch rear sight for my non-work guns.

Granted, this is only a three-shot group, but it is a group that I shot @ 100 yds with my G29, using some of my 180gr reloads.  I feel pretty confident that I can hit c.o.m. consistently @ 100 yds with any of my handguns.

Very true.  I have several dozen Glocks of various caliber and have coached hundreds of folks shooting a wide variety of Glock pistols.  They will outshoot 99% of all shooters.   8" steel plate hits at 100 yards are not hard to teach folks to do.

Your groups are pretty descent for 20-25 feet.
Not bad.
the 17 has a longer sight radius so that could be why it's a little more accurate for those distances.

He shot the groups in YARDS....three times the distance than feet.

Nothing wrong with those groupings, OP.

Offhand at 20-25 yards? That is more than "acceptable"

Update #2

I still wasnt satisfied. Made two more changes. 1. I removed the factory plastic rear sight and replaced it with a factory steel rear sight which gives me about a 1/4" longer sight radius. 2. I used a copper solvent to clean the Brl. I usually just use CLP and dont put much effort into cleaning the bore.

Just got back from the range. Same ammo. Same 25-Yard 5-shot offhand test.

2.98"

I can live with that. I'm done dicking around with this gun. Onto other projects.

Yes, 25 & 20 Yards. Though this week I didnt bother with the close range 20-yard test group as I finally found a combination of front and rear sights that works well enough for me with this Glock.
