A buddy just picked up a used glock 17 Gen 3 Nibx Coating. The serial # starts with 1 EUV%%%US can someone tell me more about this gun? The EUV and US seem a bit diffrent from other glocks.

Glock recalled most Exx series models for frame rails cracking. If you shipped it back, you had the option of a replacement frame with the original serial and a 1.

The 1 EUV prefix shows that the original frame was part of an "upgrade", and the frame that's on the gun now is a replacement frame. Some Glocks with a three-letter serial number prefix beginning with "E" had a problem with the rear frame rails where the rails could break off and fall out of the frame, the original frame for that gun was simply EUV with no "1" before it. The frame was replaced under that "upgrade" and the new frame had a "1" at the beginning of the serial number. Some of the other replacement frames started with a totally different prefix. The EUV prefix had a test fire date somewhere around 2002, you can call Glock and ask them more about it, they should be able to tell you when it was test-fired and imported. You don't have to worry about replacing the frame, it's already been replaced with a good frame.

The US suffix was used on all early Glocks. Supposedly Glock had different sets of inventory for guns that were to be shipped to America and other Euro countries. The US guns didn't require proof testing. From what I've heard the US suffix was dropped with the FED prefix.

The NiB-X coating was done aftermarket by one of the previous owners. Some Glocks come brand new with that coating but that only started like a year ago, I guess one of the distributors sends them out to WMD Guns to have the coating applied then the distributor sells them, they're not done by Glock. I can't speak for NiB-X, but it's a nickel boron plating and I had one of my slides done in nickel boron by another company, it's a really good durable finish.
