I replaced the stock Glock slide release with an extended (oversize) release. I removed the two pins, took out the original slide release, replaced the smaller, upper pin, then the new release and finally the larger, lower pin.

Everything seems to work, except the slide will not lock in the rear position. I assume the spring may not be in the correct position. Since it is hidden from view, that's only a supposition.

Is there a trick to this operation? Pistol functions normally, otherwise. (Haven't fired it, only manually operated it.)

Any tips would be appreciated.

The slide stop lever spring goes UNDER the top pin, sounds like you probably got that part right if you put the top pin in first.  You can take the slide off to check.

There is a tab that sticks out of the slide stop lever, over the top of the magwell.  This can be seen when you take the slide off and look at the frame from the top.  When you insert an empty magazine the follower should push up on this tab, thus pushing the slide stop lever up.

Reassemble the pistol, insert an empty magazine and pull the slide to the rear, it should lock open by itself.  It will not lock open without an empty magazine in place unless you push up on the slide stop lever yourself.

If this does not work, you'll want to compare the slide stop lever to your original and see if the tab is missing (broken off?) on the new slide stop lever.

Also check to make sure the magazine follower is not broken (a chunk missing) and the magazine spring is in good condition.  If the magazine will lock open your original slide stop lever then the magazine is fine.

It's virtually new - no broken or damaged parts. It swapped them out on my lunch hour- did't really have a lot of time to check things out, but I did notice that it looks like when the slide is retracted it doesn't travel back far enough for the slide release to catch the cutout on the side of the slide. I took the original piece and lined it up on the outside of the slide, placing the hole where the pin goes through the release in the proper position. Sure enough, the locking tab on the original is a bit forward of the extended version. From what I can tell from the gibberish on the ziplock bag, the part they sent should fit all models except the Glock 17. "GLOCK EXT SLIDE REL ALL MDLS EXC 17"
I'm going to double check their online catalog and reinstall the original part. If it works, I'll know it isn't my "gunsmithing."

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated

Put the original Slide Release back in. It works as before. However you have to tinker with the position of the lower pin. The slide release has to be in the groove in the lower pin, and it is anything but apparent when that is so. Looks like the pin is more flush with the right side of the pistol than centered to be correct. Anyway, it is operational. This weekend I will swap out again, but I just don't think they sent the correct part. Right bag, wrong Release. Thanks again for your advice.

I put one in my g20 and I had to open it up just a bit to get it to work properly.  I've never had a problem since.  But I would make sure of what is happening before you do any bending or grinding.  Also, it's real easy to damage the slide spring it's a very thin light spring.  good luck

Nope. From looking at it, I would have to file off 1/4 to 1/3 of the back of the area the slide catches on. I would be concerned with the strength of the remaining metal. For 16.95 I'm not doing someone elses job. Back it goes. I am getting REAL GOOD at removing the slide. Thanks to all for your help.
