I bought a 2nd Gen G22 used about 11 years ago. I don't know what the round count before I got it was (it looked like a new pistol) but I know I've put at the minimum 2000 rounds through it each of the 11 years I've had it. I recently made it to the range and it was shooting extremely loose groups compared to what it used to shoot. What could be causing this? I picked up my buddy's 3rd Gen and shot fine with it. Barrel shot out? Recoil spring spent? Help!!!

Start with replacing the springs, when was the last time it was done?

ETA also if you haven't you may want to give the barrel a good cleaning...

I've never replaced anything on it since it showed no signs of any issues until last week.

Any recommendations on where to get a spring kit or what to really clean the barrel with?

id take a road trip a few hours north and drop it off at smyrna.  in the time it will take for you to eat lunch at the great pizza place at the end of the street, they will have it ship-shape for you again, likely for the cost of $0 (unless you have them add night sites, then you can expect to pay i think about $40). glock factory options like extended slide release or mag release they install for free, if you ask.  any springs that are worn out will be replaced for free.

Check the front sight.

I had a Gen 2 G22 police trade-in "suddenly" go batty on me. I couldn't hold a 1' group, let alone consistent COM hits at 10 yards?!?!?! After having other people shoot it, and they too getting big-ass groups I finally noticed the front sight was moving slightly in it's channel.

Needless to say I felt stupid but after freshening up the loctite and tighening it down again the groups went right back to normal.

Man, I wish I could swing up there and check it out. Unfortunately the work schedule won't permit that. I did, however, order a spring kit from Glockparts.com . Hopefully that will fix me up. Thanks for the input fellas!

How does that work? I need to go to Atlanta for work and have time to make a side trip up there. Do you have to schedule a time or just show up? Thanks!

Good question!

That's nearly ten times the recommended rounds on your recoil spring.

Replace the RSA as the spring may be weak enough to allow the slide to be pulled slightly out of battery, causing the inconsistent accuracy issues.

You just drive up to the gate, tell the guard that you'd like to have your pistol serviced, and he'll direct you to the parking lot and the door you enter to drop your pistol off to be serviced. Make sure to unload the pistol and have it in a pistol case before you go inside, do not have any ammo in the pistol case either. I don't know what their hours are, I've never been there personally I'm just repeating what others have said about their experience.

If you have any aftermarket parts in the gun other than sights, they will replace those with factory parts and put the aftermarket ones in a bag. In some cases I've heard they even charge you for having to replace aftermarket parts with factory ones.

It's suggested to change the recoil spring every 5 boxes of ammo?

You're missing a zero.

Ah, yes - missed the "per year" in his tally.
