In the market, and just wondering.

Gen2 vs. Gen3?

I've read the Wikipedia links, obviously.

Just wanted to get some arf-pinions about the differences, as well as the pros and cons of each.

Have there been problems or other issues?  If so, how big a deal are these, really?

Thanks in advance.

I think the biggest change from Gen2 to Gen3 was the addition of the rail to accommodate lights/lasers.  There is one major issue specific to the Glock 22 Gen3 that I have first hand experience with.  I owned a G22 Gen3 for years and put countless trouble-free rounds through until I put a TLR-2 on it.  I started getting FTF issues pretty consistently with all types of ammo.  Drove me crazy for a long time trying to diagnose it and then I realized it started happening right when I put the TLR-2 on.  I did research and found that it is in fact a wide-spread well-known issue with the G22 Gen3 with lights/lasers installed.  Apparently the added weight/mass of the light/laser causes just enough flex in the frame to cause unreliable feeding of the flat-nosed profiled .40 cartridge.  Glock is aware of the issue and will acknowledge it if you call them and ask about it.  They will also tell you that it can be fixed by sending them your mags and having a higher coil count spring installed, but it won't fix it reliably.  I knew it wasn't a reliable fix from reading about others experiences, but decided to try anyway since Glock offered to do the work for free.  They put new springs in all five of my mags and the first day back to the range it still had FTF issues.  I ultimately decided to sell it and buy another pistol that can reliably work with the light/laser on it.  From what I understand, G22 Gen4s do not have this issue.  If you want to put a rail mounted light/laser on the G22 Gen3, look elsewhere.  If you have no plans of a rail mounted light/laser get the Gen2 or Gen3 and enjoy it!

Both are good guns. I like Gen 2's for the none finger groove grip, and old school look. Gen 3's are fine, and I am issued one for work. Light issues are fixed for the most part. Just have new mags with correct followers and springs. If you use streamlight tlr products, don't overtighten the screw. Snug it up handtight, and then only 1/4 turn more to keep it from wiggling loose. After discovering that, guns run 100% when light was installed correctly. Insight lights (m3/m6) or surefire x300/x400 don't seem to have as many problems, as they don't squeeze the frame, they just hang from it.

I won't ever own a .40 Glock, but, if I did, I'd  want it to have three pins.

I thought they always did.
Gen 2 9mm have 2 pins.

ETA: I think the 40's have always had 3 pins.

>>Gen 2 9mm have 2 pins.<<

Interesting, as my Gen 2 G22 has 3 pins.

Pretty sure all the .40s except a very few, very early transitional models had 3-pins.
