i scored a new Glock 26 with NS made in 2006 (prefix KAB). its my first Glock with the "Teflon" finish. i can say that i like it, its really slick IMO. does it get less slick with use/wear? i googled "Glock Teflon finish wear" and came up short.

i also field stripped it to give it a good cleaning. the extractor number is 13, claw looks to be about twice as thick than my LWD and OEM 2011(prefix RMK) G19 extractors.

Thanks.

I've been EDCing my Teflon 23 in Kydex for four years now with no discernible wear.

Whats this "teflon" finish? Is it the EXO one?

I believe he's talking about the "shiny" finish opposed to the matte finish on earlier Glocks.

If that's the case, my G23 has the same finish and has been carried regularly, mostly in an MTAC, for 5-6 years.  It shows very little wear.

It's the slick, semi-gloss, black finish used from the late 90's-early 00's to 2009ish.

Glock doesn't use teflon.  It is a parkerized coating with tenifer coating inpregnated on top of the finsih.

Spoken with total authority, but totally fallacious!  The Tenifer isn't over the finish.  It's in the steel, under the phosphate finish.

Tenifer is a metal treatment that penetrates the steel half a millimeter deep.

While the old and new Glock's used a phosphate type final finish, the intermediate Glock's did not. I don't know exactly what it is though.

It is best compared to non-stick cookware IMO.

the phosphate finish has more grip when racking the slide. my only problem with the teflon finish is that its slick. so after years of carry it still feels as slick as day one?

It feels the same to me.
Being "slick" is, I think, an advantage of a repeating firearm finish as it decreases friction on the slide rails, barrel and slide, cartridge and slide, Etc.

People put grip tape on the slide to alleviate this issue, FWIW.

Anybody have a side by side photo of the two finishes? Maybe I'm just dense but every "regular" Glock I've seen is just the normal black. Don't recall any of them being "shinier" than the other

*Edit* After googling I found this. Is this what you guys are talking about?

The glossy finish is the toughest finish that Glock ever did.

For over 4 years, my glossy finished G34 has been in & out of my plastic Comp-Tac OWB holster with no signs of wear.

The new flat finish looks a lot like the finish on my old 2nd gen G17. (Not as durable)
