I have been oking around and I came across a Glock 19C. Not knowing what it was, I went ahead and looked it up. Factory machined slide and ported barrel. I am intrigued!
Anyone here had any first hand experience with one? Buck |

| The only experience I have is with a 23C. The flash isn't too much worse, but may be enough to deter from EDC/Defensive use at night. I don't have any direct experience with night shooting with the compensated barrel, but if all else fails, a new non ported barrel is what, $120? Some of the pics/videos show some mighty large flashes. |
| There have been a few threads on these, here and on GT. Many reports of hot gas blinding/burning etc the shooter. Other reports say the flash from the ports ruin night vision. In my experience, the flash is not a big deal, especially if you are using good ammo (read: low flash). I fired mine from retention and didn't get burned....I could feel it, but it wasn't critical. With all that said, the recoil reduction was minimal and if you ccw iwb, all kinds of shit ends up in the ports...lint, skin, deoderant etc. It wasn't the horror story that some of the internet would have you believe, but I wouldn't buy another. YMMV. |

YMMV. Some of those horror stories are crazy, the read like a Glock vs. any other gun thread. Some people are furiously against compensated barrels for some reason. I say to each his own, so long as their "own" is researched and a sought out resolution to fit their needs. |

YMMV. He hit the nail on the head. The 19C does not have anywhere near the downsides that people claim, however the 9mm is soft shooting enough that the porting only helps minimally. I would suggest a standard glock over it. |

So it would seem that while it is a good idea, its kind of impractical and overkill on a 9mm. Would it be a better choice on say a 21 SF? or maybe something in 10mm? I may be biased but I'd go the 10mm route. Quoted:
Why not a 23c? .40SW, ease of ammo and price is pretty much on par with the 9mm ammo. Same size frame as the 19. I guess it depends on how much/often you plink but 9mm is still cheap enough to be considered over .40 s&w for the range, IMO. A couple dollars saved per box adds up over time. |
| Ammo prices definitely add up over time, I carry and shoot 19's and 17's, 9mm does everything I'll ever need it to do, and the $50 savings per 500 rounds is more than enough to justify me staying with the 9mm. Just thought since he was looking in the area of a 10mm the .40 is the next closest caliber, and barrel compensation actually plays a bit of a factor in reducing some of the recoil. |
