Tried a search before posting this but only found one thread about "33 round mags" and it ended up not being helpful.
Before I go out and pick some of these for my new (to me) gen 2 G19, is there a way to make them just 30 rounders? I live in Ohio where apparently, having more than 30 rounds at your "finger tip" makes the difference on if you are a murderous bastard or simply a law-abiding citizen. Most of my LEO friends say not to worry about it but I can just see some non-friend LEO's having an issue. Side note: was against Glock for a long time due to the different grip angle thing but tried one with the a grip adapter and it was sweet. Bought the G19 from a friend, installed the adapter, and damnit if I don't shoot it better than many of my other guns. Thanks all, jlk |
| NO way to make them 30 rounders without making a custom floor plate. They are 31 rounders with a +2 extension that brings them to 33. Even with a standard floor plate it would have 31 rounds. Just download them a round with a standard floorplate, or buy a Glock 22 or 23 and use the Glock 22 round .40 cal mags. |
| For 9mm there are several options to get you close to 30 rounds but not over with a standard 17 round mag. The easiest way it to get a Taylor Freelance +10 extension. This is what most IPSC/USPSA Open division Glock shooters use to keep them on the "same level" as the custom open gun shooters. It will give you depending on the follower and any tweaks you do anywhere from 27-29 rounds of 9mm fun. You can also contact SJ Custom (they convert alot of model 17/34s into open guns) and see about purchasing some of their custom modified 31 round mags that meet the length requirements for open division. If you want something in the mid 20 round range you can always get the limited division legal extensions from either Taylor Freelance, Arredondo Accessories, or Dawson Precision. Each will add around 6 rounds to your standard 17 round mag. Hope this helps. |
| I too have taken issue with this as those mags would be awesome for HD purposes. I was thinking of tapping the floor-plate and using a couple nuts and one bolt, silver-soldered, to reduce the overall capacity to 30. This would be for legal purposes only and would be similar to a plunger/wooden dowel used in shotguns for hunting season and those applicable magazine capacity laws. |

The 33 rounders work better if you take the +2 base plate and locking insert off and put a regular base plate and locking plate on them. Then Load with 30 rounds instead of 31. Makes seating a loaded mag easier with a closed slide round in the chamber. Then take your +2 base plate and locking insert and put them on a 15 or 17 round mag as long as you use the next size up of spring. If you put +2's on a 17 round 9mm mag you should use a 11 coil spring. In a 15 round mag use the mag spring out of a 17 round mag (10 Coil). Where would one find 11 coil magazine springs? I have been running the +2's in my Glock 17 mags and had been wondering about the reduction in spring pressure. |

Cals sporting armory.
Linky 5 bucks is Glocks factory price. Sometimes you can get them from Glock. Call them and see if they have them in stock. Now some will tell you you don't have to use the 11 coil with the 9mm 17 rd mag. Don't listen to them just do it right and not worry. A Glock 17L with Surefire x300 and a 19 round mag plus 1 in the pipe is a good feeling to have. Its a warm fuzzy on a cold night. |

| I removed the +2 baseplates and swapped in a standard plate. I also added a small piece of plastic between the mag spring and baseplate insert to shim the mag to only accept 30 rounds. Took a few tries to get it just right but its legal. Remember, our wonderful law says something to the effect of being able to hold more than 30 rounds, so im not sure if I would just download without altering the mag. FWIW the modification is reversible. |
