I have a Lone Wolf threaded barrel in my Gen3 G17 I'd like to use in my Gen4 when I get it.. is this possible?

Because..? Is it the recoil spring cutout?

I don't doubt that could be the case, I'm just skeptical of unqualified, one-word answers.

Yes, due to the guide rod. This has already been covered here and on Glocktalk.

Glock considers the GEN4 barrel proprietary.

I consider the GEN4 to be a proprietary mistake.

LWD makes a stainless cup adapter to use a Gen 3 guide rod in a G4 frame, so wouldnt that allow a G3 barrel to be used too?

Umm, you guys need to fact check.  LW's website states point blank that all of their barrels are compatible with Gen4's.  http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=82.

I've verified this myself.  I've been running a threaded LW barrel on my Gen 4 since a month or two after I bought it last year.  It runs fine, with or without suppressor (as long as you don't use underpowered silver bear in it).  In fact, it has at least double (probably quadruple) the round count that the factory barrel does.  I just checked the recoil spring cutout area on both barrels, and if there are any differences, they are far too slight to make any functional difference.

OP, go ahead and use that LW barrel for your Gen 4.  You'll be happy with the results.

I wasn't aware that Glock and LWD barrels aren't cut the same. There's a thread on GT with a guy that could not get the guide rod assembled with a Gen3 Glock barrel in his Gen4.

I wonder what model Glock it was?  My Gen 4 is a 17, and the LW barrel works fine in it.

I did come across a reference to someone having problems fitting a 9mm/40 conversion barrel from a Gen 2 into a Gen 4 model 23 (or maybe it was vice versa?).  Can't remember what site I read that on, though.  I recall that there was some question over whether his barrel had other issues (mis-machined in the barrel hood area, etc).  I suppose it's possible LW has changed some of the dimensions on the barrels over time - possibly older barrels don't work.  The recent production ones will, based on my experience and LW's own advertising.  I don't believe there is any functional difference between the Gen 2, 3 and Gen 4 recoil spring cut outs, based on my inspections of my own pistols.  As I understand it, the cutout is there only for reassembly anyway - once the gun is together, it basically doesn't do anything functionally.

If the OP has a Gen4 available for comparison, its worth a shot to try it.  I think he'll be GTG.

Not at present, but soon. I'm planning on the purchase anyway based on the grip, mag release, etc.. being able to use the barrel will just be icing on the cake.

It seems to make sense that it would work, as a G19 barrel will function in a G26 which has aways had the dual spring.  As a matter of fact, the only way for a private citizen in Canada to buy a G26 is to buy it with the G19 barrel installed.

I can tell you the guide rod cut out is definitely different.  Wether they are interchangable, IDK.

False.  You can use them interchangeably.  The only diff is the crescent cut at the front of the bbl's locking lug which is used to position the recoil rod when re-assembling.  As soon as you rack the slide, the recoil rod moves from this position anyway, so it's not important.

LWD says their bbls work fine.
