I got a new gen 4 19.  I took it to the range and had several FTF, and failure to lock the slide back.  I was running federal ammo.  Suggestions?  (I dont limp wrist)

Check you recoil spring to see if it is stamped with "03." If it is, you may want to call Glock and see if they will send you the "04" version. I believe I've read the 03 springs have given some shooters similar problems. I haven't had those problems with mine, but YMMV.

Ditto....

although i've got 2700 rounds thru my g19 gen 4 with 03 spring and only one FTF (which may have been caused by bad brass).

its stamped 04, is this something that should go away with use?  The last 30 rounds were trouble free.

It should clear up.  My 03 spring has been faultless so far.  Those with issues found that they cleared up with break-in.  I would run a magazine or two of defense loads through the pistol.

Go get a stock weight replacement single recoil spring from glockmeister, same weight as the gen3's  â€“–––> http://www.glockmeister.com/Glockmeister-Stainless-Steel-Recoil-Assembly-For-Gen-4-G19-23-and-32/productinfo/G4SS19CS/

If it wont work the way they send it, I'm going to get rid of it.  I have never had an issue with my m&p's.

Has anyone else fired this gun besides you?

Yes it malfunctioned with my wife shooting it as well.

We both shoot quite often.  Never had a problem with my M&P's (9fullsize and comp), HK USP 45. XD9, CW9, several 1911's.  It could be the shooters but i doubt it.

I'd say it was the federal ammo.  I had my first fte today with my G19 gen3.  And I know it was the federal ammo.  I am trying to get rid of all of it soon.  My reloads are much better accuracy wise.  I just bought it because it was cheap.  Never again.

Fed Champion I bet is the culprit.

Did you clean the gun before you shot it?

That gold shit is antiseize, not a proper lubricant.

Clean it, use GOOD lube, and I bet you have no problems.  After a couple hundred rounds, I bet you can't get the thing to limp wrist even if you try.

I'm not too familiar with Glocks but I saw on pistol.training.com that Todd was testing out a gen 4 g-17 and was having major problems with it right out of the box.  Someone recommended he sitch out the extractor with a gen 3 version and  it looks like this may have solved a very frustrating problem.  Check his website and see your problems look the same.

Regarding the failure to lock back I would recommend trying the pistol with both the M and L backstraps and see if it continues.

The 04 spring is still too much IMHO. I didn't buy a glock to be picky about ammo. It should shoot whatever I put into it.

That's interesting.  Everyone seems to think the gen 4 problems are caused by the new recoil system, but the high-speed video comparison of the gen 3 and 4 glock 19 that 87gn made sure makes it look like an extractor or maybe ejector problem.

I've fired a ton of fed champion through my gen 3 G17 and 26.

I know for a fact that it will choke down a compensated G17.  My gen 3 G17C will run WWB, Wolf, Blazer, and pretty much any cheap stuff I can throw at it but if I dare try to shoot Federal Champion 115 grain it fails to eject a few times a mag.

It has to be the weakest factory 115 grain 9mm available.
