i will be receiving a used glock im less than a week. according to the serial number project lookup on GT this gun will be 8 years old in Apr (i will verify that with glcok when i get some free time. Im going to use this as my carry gun. as soon as i get it im taking it to the range to see how she eats up steel, brass, and HP ammo. i dont foresee any malfunctions happening (i put a few hundred rounds of wolf 9mm through a g19 months ago without a hiccup so im doing the same when the 23. just a FYI for you steel ammo haters, i got about 200 rounds left of 9mm wolf ammo that i got for free. im NOT going to throw away free ammo. now for future use i will use brass only however the only difference ive noticed with the steel ammo is its ALOT DIRTIER thats about it (not a big deal, i feel cleaning just as fun as shooting). im sorry im getting off track here, let me jump back on. so anyways i need to know what maybe needs to be replaced in this gun to feel saying making it my EDC. its a month shy from being 8 years old and i want to have that piece of mind knowing i have a reliable gun to carry. Im no glock expert but im thinking maybe a  new recoil rod should be put in? i think thats what their called, the piece of plastic rod with the sprig around it located under the barrel (have an extra brand new one of those). what else may need to be replaced. im tight on money so im trying to avoid a glock armorer at all costs. oh ya im going function check it also before firing. so sorry for the long story, its late, ive had some cabernet so i think its night night for me. if someone could answer  what to look for, how long  guide rod last for, and whatever else i would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much guys!!!

Seems like guide rods crack but don't break. Frankly I'd just put decent sights on it and roll with it. Get a good holster.

replace the recoil spring, function check, take it to the range with your choice of carry ammo, and forget about it.

It's a glock, not a 1911. It's made to be used.

Replace the Recoil Spring Assembly, and maybe update the mag followers and springs.

Call Glock and tell them your RSA is worn and they will most likely send you one free.

Not knowing the actual round count I would replace the guide rod/spring. If you contact Glock with your serial # they will let you know if your pistol is in need of any recall replacement parts.  Glocks are extremely simple to work on and there is a ton of litereature/videos on the web to replace any parts yourself.

I have shot thousands of rounds of steel cased Wolff thru my snd Gen G19 without any issues so shoot it if you got it.

Yeah, as has been said, you'll be fine.  The fucking things run forever.

If I bougth this gun I would shoot the shit out of it and replace the trigger spring with a NY1, and recoil spring as you don't know how many rounds have been through it.

Guide rod/spring, trigger spring just to be safe, and CHECK THE SLIDE LOCK SPRING.  If it's the old skinny one they can and DO break, which will cause your slide to fall off.  It's a $3 part that will make the gun worthless.  One of mine broke on a 23C a few weeks ago.  I didn't even realize there had been an update until mine broke and I found this http://www.tucsonguns.com/Glock-0024-Fix_Slide_Lock_Spring.php

I might go for some new mag springs and updated followers depending on what the gun comes with also.

Or you can just shoot the crap out of it and there's a 99.9% chance it will be fine (except for the slide lock spring).

Take a long weekend and pay Glock a visit in Smyrna, GA. Just bring it in and say you want it updated, and they'll replace most of the wear parts and throw in the extractor with the nub and an extended slide release free if you ask. Want night sights too while you're there? $60 installed. One of the many, many reasons I love Glock.

1) Keep everything stock (except the sights - steel sights are a must IMHO)
2) Replace the recoil spring assembly every 5,000 rounds.
3) Shoot steel cased ammo through that bad boy as much as you want.  Glocks eat it up.

If it's only eight years old it should have all the newer style springs.
