A friend of mine is going to be taking a great combat handgun class. He would like to get a Glock in 9mm to use instead of his Glock 22. He has shot my Glock 19 and really liked it, but may be open to getting a Glock 17 instead. Which model do you think would be best for a combat handgun class where you can be expected to run up to 1000 rounds through your gun in two days?
I personally like the full size autos for classes, but a 19 would work great as well. What are your thoughts? Our local store has the Glock 17 with the RTF2 finish for $429 and the Glock 19 Gen 4s for $499 in case price is the deciding factor for some of you. Thanks! |

Any Glock, and just about any handgun from any of the major manufacturer's can be used for the course, so that is irrelevant. Tell him to decide on what gun he wants, and buy it. Or just tell him to take the class with what he already has. Why wouldn't you take the class with what you already have? Is he required to carry the G22 for work? If so, that is an even bigger reason to use it for the class. |

He is only buying a 17 or 19 since he likes shooting 9mm. Nothing wrong with his 22, but the recoil on the 9mm is much less for quicker follow up shots, and the ammo price is $3-5 a box cheaper. The class needs 1000 rounds, so that is a big factor for cost.
He is sticking with Glocks since he already has all the holsters and gear for Glocks, he is just torn between the 17 and the 19. I have four 9mm Glocks, and love my 17 and 34. |

If it's not for carry, I'd get the 17 I agree. The 19 will work and tons of people use them with great success. The 17 offers a more comfortable grip and a few more rounds in the mag. I only own 19's currently because I carry them regularly. When I have some extra funds I intend on getting a 17. |

04 spring is still over sprung, at least with mine. Get Glock to send you the 04 spring. Mine w/03 spring is working fine. If you want Gen 3 recoil, the Glock Store will sell you a spacer for the front of the slide that allows you to use a Gen 3 recoil spring. |

I've done all that and more. The 04 spring has worked ok for 150 rounds, but ejection is lethargic and the slide still travels forward too soon, catching brass sometimes. Time will tell if it will work. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile My 03 spring dropped brass next to me and on my face for 100 rounds, but yesterday it sent it 5-6' away. Good luck on yours. |

The G17 is the better shooter for most because it's bigger. The G19 is a compromise in shooting and concealment and IMO is the perfect 9mm "one gun" and best all around Glock. Both will work. I shoot the G17 better than the G19, and the G26 just as well. So, I sold all my G19s and have only the G17/26, which serves me far better as a duo than the G19 alone. |

"Glock 17 with the RTF2 finish for $429" I would jump on that. Gen4 19s are still broken. + 1,000 that's a great price on a hard to find Glock. I love my G 17 RTF2 and I would probably pick up another if given the chance, especially for $430. i bought mine for $500 at the time and I thought that was a decent deal. |

G19 will do anything the G17 will, but it conceals easier IMO. Go G19. Side note, a buddy went to Thunder Ranch for BASIC TACTICAL PISTOL and shot his G19. He got chided by instructors for using a "female gun" and not a 1911. He said it was more or less in good fun, but was obvious their bias. |
