Well after a few weeks of tracking it down and waiting, I finally picked up my Gen4 23 yesterday.  I spent about 2 hours last night handling and dry firing and would like to share my initial thoughts.  Please keep in mind this is my first Glock and these are initial impressions without having fired a round through it.  This gun will serve as my CCW weapon.

Size

This thing just feels right.  I always thought the Gen 3's grips seemed a bit big for my hand.  Although the new generation only reduces the grip size by 1mm (without the included backstraps) it feels like a world of difference.  I was running through some drills bringing the sights in line and the gun just seems to lock into my hand.  I believe the new stippling also helps the feel of the gun "locking" in place.  This aggressive stippling also has a downside (at least from what I can tell so far)....my hand is sore.  I probably racked the slide and dry fired approximately 100 times and it actually brought a small blood blister to the palm of my hand just in front of the heel.  Maybe it's my girlie like hands, or maybe I moisturize too much ....but my hand continues it's tenderness today.  However, trigger finger was good.  I've heard of people complain that their trigger finger gets sore, and maybe after firing 300 down range in a single session mine will also, but for now, it's not a concern.  I may look into an AGrip to help with the harsh stippling, or just grin and bear it until my hands become more...."manly".

Trigger

I cannot compare the trigger to a Gen 3 directly as I've only dry fired the previous generation a few times in the local gun shop.  What I can say is that I absolute love it.  In dry firing, I was able to prevent pulling the sights off target (door knob across the room) much less than with my other guns which are DA/SA (Baby Eagle, S&W 4026).  The trigger break and subsequent reset seem like a cap gun going off and I absolutely love the positive feel of the trigger.  I have read where some people feel the trigger pull is heavy compared to the previous generation due to the updated trigger bar, but again, I cannot fairly compare the two.  It seems that it will not be an issue for me.

Magazines

Gun came with 3-13 round magazines.  I had previously bought 2-13 round gen 3 magazines knowing they can be used as I am right handed.  That 13th round is tough to get in even with an Uplula.  I'll keep them fully loaded until my first range session and hopefully this will loosen them up a little.  Magazines drop free rather nicely.  The larger magazine release seems like a plus....big enough to easily manipulate...not so big as to worry about bumping it under stress/holstering.

Sights

I don't know if it's me, but it seems like when lining up the top of the front sights with the top of the rear sights, I lose part of the front sight dot....maybe the bottom 20%.  At my first range session, I plan on hashing this "issue" out.  It seems as though I will like the layout of these sights due to quick target acquisition when compared to 3 dot sights.  I will be swapping out the sights for night sights (possibly Ameriglo Pro Operators).  Any advice on sight recommendation is appreciated.

I have to figure out which holster I will be purchasing for IWB carry.  I'm leaning toward MTac, CTac, or Pitbull.  After reading through many of the threads regarding holster preference, it seems this will be a trial and error decision.

Overall I am very pleased with my initial impression of the gun, and cannot be happier with the purchase.  I will be sure to post the obligatory pics when I get a chance.

Actually SHOOT the gun with all 3 grips and see what works the best.  I agree that the small grip "feels" the best when dry firing.  For me though, the large grip has faster recovery.

I had actually thought of that.  I do realize that comfort doesn't always mean better accuracy and faster follow ups.

I picked this up last night as well.  The triggers on the gen 4's are slightly harder but I'm sure they will smoothen out with some use.  I did order a 4.5lb connector though.  I had them install the Warren Tactical 2 dot sights and they are really fast.  Much better than the 3 dot and factory sights.  I was able to shoot 50 trouble free rounds out of it in the front yard this morning to see if I could notice a difference in the muzzle rise vs. gen 3 and there is a difference.  Gen 4 feels much smoother and takes a little of that .40 bite out of it.  Can't wait to get to the range for some formal shooting out of it.

Also pictured is my Occidental Stronghold Phoenix holster and ZT 0200.
