| Are there any reliability problems with the G19 when running a Surefire X300 light? |

This is an issue on my 357sig. If you shoot standard ammo you should be good. The problem as explained to me by Glock is that the light causes the frame to be more rigid creating less drag on the slide. So when you shoot hot loads the slide velocity increases, not giving the next round enough time to make it to the top of the mag. This results in the slide punching the round down into the feed ramp. The solution advocated by Glock is to run the 11 coil mag springs. The increased pressure assures the round is in place but also adds drag to the slide as it rides over the top of the round. The other solution is to add a heavier recoil spring to slow the slide velocity down. However, this can result in malfunctions in itself if you switch back to sub velocity ammo, resulting in the slide not traveling all the way back. The funny thing about this is the 9mm uses the same recoil spring as the 22 and 31, even though the bullet mass and velocity of these calibers is VERY different. Some have stated the Gen4 attempts to correct this very issue in the .40sw by using the dual spring recoil assembly.
Bottom line, stick with standard pressure 9mm and you shouldn't have a problem with a light attached. If you are going to use +P's for you "duty" ammo, make sure you bite the bullet and fire at least 100 rounds with the light attached. Also, it's a good idea to test your carry ammo with a mag that you have left loaded for more than 6 months just to make sure it is GTG after sitting loaded for awhile. |
