Thinking about ditching my G19 for another G17. I shoot it better, and its really not that much harder to conceal.
One thing that bothers me about some full-size Glocks is they have a half-moon cut-out at the bottom of the frame just under the bottom finger groove while some don't. Does anyone happen to know why some full-size Glocks have this, but some do not? My G17RTF2 does not have it, but my wife's G34 does. I just don't like it because my pinkie sits over a open hole with it on models with the cut-out. |

I think this cut out was designed to aid in removing the magazine especially for an immediate action drill...I just don't think until they redesigned the frame they changed it...my G21 doesn't have it...my old G19 did and I hated it...I was thinking of picking up a G17 but it has it too...I did feel one of the RTF-2 with gill slide serrations and it felt great (or is that "grate") but agree the RTF-2 might work like a cheese grater on clothing...

My last December produced G17 does not have it, and the new G34 I just traded into does not have it. But my wifes G17 does have it. All pistols are Gen 3. I wonder if the ones that have it were an early produced "variation" if you will and the newer produced Glocks don't have them.
That being said I'm really not sure, this is just my guess. |

Only the G17, 22, 31, 34, and 35 size frame of the Gen 3 have it on current production guns. The current G21, 20, all RTF, compacts, sub compacts, and Gen 4 guns do not have the cut out. All Gen2 full and compact size guns have it to include the G21 and 20 while the sub compacts have never had it. The Gen 2.5 G21 and 20 didn't have it either.
EDIT: My G17C Gen 3 from 2009 does have the cutout and it is one of the frames made in the USA with no Austria marking. I wonder if maybe the newest full sized Gen 3 frames from Austria have a new molding machine and do not have the cutout and the molding machine in Smyrna, Georgia is the original that was shipped over and still adds the cut out? Does anyone out there have a non-RTF Gen 3 G17 or G22 sized frame with no cut out and where was it made? |

My experience was the exact opposite, I shoot the G19 better and it is a lot easier for me to conceal at 6'6" and 260lbs. My gen3 G19 and G17 both have the cut outs. |
