Before you jump all over me asking "why?" and "Just buy a Glock 17!" Let me explain that I like building things, and I'd like to build this just to be different. I'm asking if there's anything wrong with the basic ingredients.
Basically, I'd like to go with a CCF Raceframe with a LoneWolf Slide and Barrel to build a Frankenglock 17. My biggest concern has to do with the warning on the CCF page about using non-glock slides or barrels. I don't want to use an OEM or CCFA slide. I would be ok switching from a Lone Wolf barrel to Glock OEM barrel, I just like that the barrels from Lone Wolf can be ordered so no writing/engraving is visable. I also like the LoneWolf will do their slides in the white externally and engrave all the information internally. There is a shop offering melonite in my state. Like the finish, like the color. Would foing with a aluminum or steel frame make a difference? A grey aluminum frame wouldn't cut it. What refinishing are there for steel that don't apply to aluminum? Thoughts? Experiences? Any other metal Glock Frame manufacturers? The aftermarket Slide makers I'm aware of are Lone Wolf, CCFA, and Caspian. Are there any other reasonable options? Where can factory replacement slides be found? |

factory slides and frames can be bought from glockmeister, i dont know if theyre on the website, might have to call...why not use a lonewolf frame and lonewolf slide? I like a metal frame...I definitely don't hate polymer by any means, I own more polymer handguns than metal. I just want something different. A metal framed Glock with a 1911 grip angle. Is it too much to ask? |

I had a long conversation with a guy at CCF last week.
The reason he gave for not using aftermarket barrels is that a large proportion of them are out of spec with regard to underlug geometry and dimension. They can break the locking lug. Aftermarket slides may require significant fitting. The flex if plastic frames lets mfgs get away with murder dimensionally. I want to build one for the weight, and the fact that a G19 is my daughter's carry piece, so she's very comfortable with the platform; a race gun will be an easy transition. I hadn't realized how easy service of the frame is until I recently bought a Gen 2 G19 frame to run an AA .22 kit on, since the girl ran off with the 9MM. It has the orange NY trigger, and I'll need to change back to stock configuration. Not much of a chore. |

Just last week I got my used CCF frame in and a LWD slide. I have a storm lake 40-9 conversion barrel that will not let the lwd slide, slide on to the ccf frame. But it slides on smoothly with my other lwd barrel and factory glock barrels. But the slide its self seems to be smooth on the frame with no hang ups or catches anywhere. So when I get the rest of my parts in Im going to run it and test it out with both factory and the lwd slides. |
