That $350 would pay for a ton of regular ammo or a decent reloading setup and components to make your own.  .22lr ammo doesn't duplicate the recoil of real ammo and so only partially helps with training.  Since many people need to get 'acclimatized' to their pistols action, I'm not a fan of these 22lr uppers.  YMMV

I'm not necessarily looking for a trainer.  I just got hooked on my buddy's wife's P22 at the range one day, and I want a .22 pistol of some sort.  But damn near everything is 10 rounds (still waiting for the RIA 1911 .22 to come out; 15 round mags).

A few range trips with that conversion, and soon enough, it will pay for itself.  That's how I look at it anyway.

I've got the Advantage Arms .22 kit for my Glock 17. I've had it for about 10 years and didn't really use it a whole lot until I had it threaded for a suppressor. Not the quietest set up, but one of my favorite .22 hosts.
