It appears that there are three basic methods of wearing an IWB holster: the basic clip to the pants, the belt loop and the "J" hook. Each, I'm sure, has its advantages. But to me, it looks like a "J" hook would be the best compromise between being discreet and secure/stable. What do y'all prefer and why?

i use the basic, b/c i usually wear my shirts untucked so how the clip looks doesn't really matter

if i  HAVE to wear IWB. i just go with the clip. It's quick and easy. No need to fool with a belt if i have to take it off, easy to adjust as well, JMO

I've been using the "J" clips for the past 3 months and they seem to be working just fine.  My Wilderness 5 Stitch belt fits in the J perfectly and they isn't any movement when drawing.

I've got a Milt Sparks summer special w/belt loops.  I like it better than the Galco I have with a belt clip, because on a GOOD gunbelt, the curve of the belt won't exactly fit the flat part of the clip.  That means that sometimes the belt clip will pop off the belt.  I've been walking along and suddenly felt my S&W Mod 60 shift to the front as the clip popped off.  Not a good thing in the middle of the mall!

In addition, I find that the holsters w/clips don't hold the pistol at the angle I prefer--they tend to be almost exactly vertical, not with a forward cant like the belt-looped holsters do.

Belt loops.  I prefer 2 belt loops that are adjustable.  FIST makes a set-up that you can install velcro on the inside of your belt, and then have 2 flaps come between your pants and the holster and attach to the velcro.

I use beltloops as well. I wear a Sparks VersaMax, the loop snaps are no hindrance, although I usually put the holster on when putting the belt on, so I don't use the snaps often.

Roger that.

Spring steel clips are bad mojo.  Use them long enough and you'll end up drawing a gun AND a holster when you need it.

If you dont want straps, be sure to get the J-hook style clip.

I have the Bladetech Ultimate Concealment Holster with belt loops.  If I could change one thing about it, I think I would rather have a J-Hook on it.  I definitely don't want a holster with just a clip, though.

Bladetech Ultimate Concealment Holster with 1.50" J-hooks.

No problems yet with 1.5 months of usage. Easy on, easy off. Holster stays when boomstick removed.

Galco tuckable with J hook.  It's very secure when drawing, but during the day (walking, driving, sitting, etc.) it can wiggle around alittle.  And I find myself having to adjust its position every so often.  I just make it look like I'm pulling my pants up.  ht

Me too. I just slide the belt through the loops when dressing, no biggie.
