| So I'm finally taking my CC class the 27th of this month. My only problem is I don’t currently own a handgun, had to sell my only 1911 this summer to pay for vet bills. So I am buying my carry gun next Tuesday, I am 99% sure I want a Glock, but don’t know which model or caliber to go with. My girlfriend (who is also taking the class), is getting a G26, but i really don’t like the feel, or look of the sub compacts. Does anyone here carry a full size Glock? An if so what holster should I use? Right now I am leaning towards a G19. Any reason I should look elsewhere? If I find I can carry a full size I would love to carry a G21SF. Thanks for any advice you all can give me! |

I never really liked the midsize frames personally. I never had problems concealing my G22 (fullsize .40) under a t-shirt with an IWB and blue jeans. More often than not, I have my G27 (subcompact .40) on my for CCW.
If she is getting a G26, I'd suggest a 19 for you if you like the feel of the compact (midsize) frame. I think that's the most popular model they have, and 19 mags will work in your girl's 26 as well. eta I see Daisycutter beat me too it, but I'm sure we won't be the only ones suggesting the 19. |
| I think I will go with the 19. I also like the super truck holster. Thanks for the help, I cant wait to get it home. But I also I noticed there are a lot of fun toys for the 19 (like the 30rd mags for fun at the range). Do you guys have other basic CC tips? It gets hot here, and i sweat a lot! Whats the best holster to keep my sweat away from my firearm? |

Quoted: Since the GF is getting a 26 get a 19, same ammo, holsters, she can use 15 round mags for reloads. MTac, CTac, Supertuck, Threat Solutions UCR, etc. This. G19 is one of the best fighting pistols ever made. Would be a great choice. I carry a G17...............SO carries a G19...............we can share mags and holsters all day (except for her 2 15rnders |

I have the three .40's; G22, G23, G27 and just received my Supertuck in horsehide. Wore it Friday for 4 hours, Yesterday for 14 hours, and now have it on this morning. Really, really comfortable! And, I got cherry life savers Good luck |

After 25 years of carrying everything I will say the G19 is the best carry gun made. It can do everything well, CC, home defense, target shooting. The perfect size, weight, alot of rounds, just the right power level. Yup Actually, I used to be a certified Glock hater until Katrina.....I was issued a G22 and had to carry it at work, but toted something else off duty (and once I was made a detective I frequently carried a S&W M10 at work, since it was hidden from view.) Off duty I tended to carry a Sig228 or a wheelgun, and sometimes a Springfield Champion .45. After K, some friends bought a ticket to fly me up to a buddy's house in NC––-since I lost pretty much everything except most of my gun collection, I did not want to risk one of my remaining weapons to possible loss or theft as checked baggage, and didn't want the headache of taking my duty gun in case that was lost. So I went to the store to buy something new I wouldn't care about––-they had a good deal on a G19, so I bought that, thinking I would take it with me to NC, then sell it when I got home. I have carried it ever since (outside of being in uniform where I can't get away with it.) I have also since then bought a G26, a G20, and a G21SF. |

Thanks for all the advice! I will look at the 17 as well. Hope to order my holster in a few days since the 17 and 19 use the same size. The holsters are not the same size. However a 19 would fit into a holster made for a 17. Not necessarily vice-versa. I would suggest checking with the manufacturers. I believe a slide holster would allow carry of any of the Glock's in the same frame size. |

I carried a G26 in a disantis tuck this holster for a while (until I converted to .45). It is small and very handy/comfortable to shoot losing nothing with it's size. I was no less accurate with it vs. the G17. 10 rounds or 12 with the +2 extender which I didn't like.
Having said that, yes, a 19 would have been better "for me" only in terms of extra rounds carried. Had I a choice initially, I don't believe I would have minded the extra barrel/slide length of the 19 over the 26 and I definitely would have preferred more rounds. The extra handle length does not effect comfort so that's not an issue..however there might have been a slight issue of printing more with that grip..but I doubt it. The weight of a bigger gun and extra rounds might be an issue if carried daily. I wore my G26 with only the 10 round mag and it was unnoticable throughout my work day (installing/repairing wireless internet) until I had to get small or crawl around on a roof or in a crawl space. I can imagine how much more uncomfortable and heavy the 19 would have been. So take into consideration the small specifics of where and how you'll carry it before deciding. Those extra ounces of weight do get old..especially when you have to keep your belt tight to keep it in place and you're bending. As other's have said, it's like shooting a full size 9mm glock. The G19 is a great choice. But then now that I have the slimmest glock made, the G36, I could never go back to any of the 9mm offerings! Talk about comfortable and light! |

The best advice that I can give you is to go to a range that rents all or most of the Glock models that you're interested in and try them out. It's not that expensive ( a lot cheaper than buying one or more you don't like and selling at a loss) and you can always use the practice. I went through a similar decision process last week in preparing to get my CHL. I was deciding between the 19 and 26, and was pretty much dead set on getting the 19 after reading all of the 19 vs 26 forum posts and handling them in the shop. The 26 just felt really akward with my pinky finger hanging off.
However, my perspective changed a lot after shooting them. After a handfull of rounds through the 26, I realized that I was just as accurate (if not more accurate) with the 26 and the grip feels completely secure and natural with my pinky curled under the mag. I was willing to trade the extra capacity for extra concealability. |

I pretty much agree with everyone else.
G17 or G19 I carry a G17, I love the full size glock and it fits perfect in my hands. I have no problems concealing my 17, plus I get the 17 +1 rounds. Its nice to know if I must have 18 rds I have it. In ARFCOM tradition I would also say get both, but either way you will be GTG |
