I was thinking of getting a Crossbreed leather belt, but I wondered what other options were for a thinner belt. I don't like the Wilderness Instructor belt, I think it looks kind of dorky.

What do you all think of the Liger belts? Any other tips for thin belts?

I was disappointed with the Liger belt. The holes were not quite where I wanted them so I punched another one myself(had read this was ok). within a year or so, the new hole had tore all the way thru to the next hole. I continued using the belt and even the factory hole began to tear.

I'm guessing you wear a tucked shirt since you are concerned about the looks of the wilderness? If not, for me the function of the belt wins out - I'm very happy with the instructor belt.

Not tucked but sometimes my belt shows.

BTW, haven't started carrying yet, just turned 21 earlier this month and I'm out of state.

Might go with the Wilderness belt, good to know I can always rappel with it if need be.

5.11 makes a leather belt with a plastic insert that looks like a normal "casual" leather belt

After reading the reviews, I was second guessing posting this, but what the hell. I use a black one every day to carry a full size 1911 and extra mags with NO problems.  YMMV.

Does anyone have advice on belt size? Looking at the Wilderness Instructor belt, I wonder if 1.5" is enough or if I need the 1.75" model.

You need to know what size belt your holster will accommodate; some will not accept a 1 3/4" belt.

I strongly recommend that you look into the Comp Tac 1 1/2" contour leather belt, it's very well designed and made, attractive, and it is extremely comfortable; more so than my Beltman.

IMO my Comp Tac is a better belt overall than my Crossbreed belt.

If you were asking about holsters my opinion would be reversed.

Don't go off of your pants size; get a tape measure and measure your waist. The waist size of my jeans is 32", but my belt size is 37". I use a Wilderness Instructor belt size 36" and a Rafter S leather belt size 37". The Rafter S does an outstanding job of distributing weight, but it's a good 1/8" thick.

I wear the CompTac gun belt and the Beltman Belts.

Both are incredible.

Beltman is awesome, and I  have just been wearing a Wilderness Frequent Flyer Belt with shorts for summer carry.

+1 on FF belt. Mine has 3 stiches and supports 32 ounces plus holster well. To get the length right I put the holster in my pants and measured around my waist without any other belt.

What pants are you wearing it with? Most of mine can barely handle the 1.5 inch Wilderness.

Because you've tried every belt on the market and can definitively state which one "is the best handsdown."

To the OP: You'll find that there are many outstanding CCW products on the market, and there is no "best" since everyone is built differently. CCW holsters and belts are like boots––they fit everyone differently, and you'll have to figure out which works best for you.

I'd strongly suggest that you avoid Rafter S like the plague.

I ordered from Rafter S based on a casual recommendation on this website without properly researching them and I was lucky to get my money back.

In my opinion, as well as the opinions of the people quoted in the links; Rafters does an outstanding job of ripping people off.

Wow, I had no idea. I had no problems when I dealt with them a few years ago, and their customer service was good when I had to exchange a belt that I ordered too small. Very disappointing.

The 1.5" will work just fine but I prefer the 1.75".  If your holster and the belt loops on your pants are big enough for the wider belt then I'd get it.

Those who dealt with Rafters "a few years ago" received excellent leather at reasonable prices.

I was just too lazy to properly research the way Rafters currently operates; so I have nobody to blame but myself for getting screwed over by them.

The negative information about Rafter S was all over the internet; I should have checked them out myself.

Dealing with them was the first time I've ever felt like I had been hustled like a dumb sucker; I learned my lesson.
