was in my local lumber yard today, great folks. anyhow it was slow and i was shooting the breeze with a friend behind the counter i shoot with a lot. next thing i know one of the other guys walks past me and kind bumps me a little to get through the opening in the counter. he stopped and turned around and said oh i think this might be yours, he had my kershaw knife i keep clipped to my pocket. then he said and i know this is yours.............he handed me my m&p9c!!!!!   WTF  no one in there knew i was carrying.    now i am rethinking my mtac holster, and it is way comfy. anyone ever heard of this being a problem? it never occurred to me. i have the retention set so i can hold the holster upside down without the gun falling out.

Yea are you? I can see the knife but if retention was set on an IWB holster I'm having trouble seeing it. Plus people that IWB have the gun taking up space of the belt making the pants go loose not including the weight that's all of a sudden gone. If this is true then sorry to say but they DO know you carry and the guy is an asshole for doing what he did since the second he had that gun he was not only breaking the law but had it in full view for others to see which could of ended up with a call to the police.

What was your response? I hope it made that shithead think twice before doing that to anyone else!

yes i'm serious

i don't think he is an asshole only because i have known him for 20 years. marine special forces in vietnam... says he "just picked up on some things while working with some guys"

all very discrete. no big show other than he is not the guy to fuck with perhaps. the mtac is a hybrid kydex and leather so the volume of the holster does not decrease when the gun is gone. so your pant are not suddenly falling down etc.

plus i was not expecting anything like that. who would? i have some knowledgeable friends, now i just need to learn from them.

It gives me chills to think how easy it was for him to do that! Be thankful hes on your side, huh?

The guy took your knife, lifted your shirt and took your M&P at the same time?

he had them both! could have killed me with either i'm sure. however i am just as sure he could take me out without either if he wanted to.,

i will talk to him some more tomorrow about it. i was a bit freaked out at the time.

i am very good friends with all of the counter guys there and all of them are life long hunters and retired military.

i am going to ask for a copy of their surveillance camera footage, i am sure i look pretty dumbfounded when he hands me my gun.

1.  Be glad he was a friendly.

2.  NEVER let yourself be that unaware again!

3.  Seriously, the first time he bumped you I would have done a "check" for my wallet/knife/keys/phone (which would casual go over the top of my HK).

the more i thought about this the more pissed i got. when we talked today he knew what he had done was reckless and not very smart, apology accepted. could have made plaxico look like a super genius, once the trigger is exposed all bets are off. if i would have felt something and spun around etc etc etc
i also gave the retention screws a little snugging as well.

Since you know the guy, ask him how he knew you were carrying. Does your rig scream GUN! when you move or bend. Or, have you let it out in casual conversation. This is a good opportunity to double check how concealed your weapon really is.

is this a problem a lot of kydex holsters have?I was thinking of getting one, but if you cant tell your piece has been lifted except for the difference in weight, i might look into getting an all leather rig instead.

how much does the pistol you carry weigh?

I do the pickpocket trick with friends a lot....wallets...keys...but never with a gun...

I think you're fine....sounds to me like he's a special person and most people wouldn't be able to do that.

those pick pocketers are very skillful at what they do.
my father was bumped on a train in rome, robbed him blind. of course he realized it as his cell phone rang, beat the living shit out of the gypsy, almost went to jail

My pants lift up a little when I pull my P226 out of my CTAC holster. I didn't buy new pants for carry, so they are kind of tight. I always know if my gun is there. The hammer digs into my side and it hurts after a while. I'm sure I wear my holster tighter than most.

I would have lost my mind on the guy. If you want to get your point across that you can pickpocket, DON'T touch the gun. Just take something small. WOW!!

Ok, I think all agree it was pretty rude of the guy to pickpocket your pistol and knife. Understood. Now take this as a learning experience and figure out what you can do to fix your deficiencies. Spend some time talking with this guy and find out from HIM, what can you do to make it impossible for him to repeat things. Honestly, the guy that was able to do this to you is the #1 BEST person to help you prevent it from happening again. Do NOT go off on him, just be humble and try to learn from it. Oh yeah, please come back and share with the rest of us what he tells ya.Please??

I know that the 'bump' is a favorite technique for pickpockets, as is having somene distract you but please, share any insights you get from him.

You need to spend some time thinking about maintaining a defensive position and not leaving your gun side exposed to foot traffic.

I'm not trying to say that you need to blade at 45 degrees constantly, but you need to think about where you stand and how you are positioned relative to others when you are carrying.

I find this extremely hard to believe.  Holsters have a very distintive feeling as the gun is drawn, especially kydex with the dimple in the trigger guard which makes almost a "click" as it breaks free.  How did you not notice him pulling your shirt up or the feeling of the gun leaving the holster?  Why were you obstructing the opening in the counter with your gun side?  Even more so, why were you oblivious to someone close to you on your gun side?

You said no one there knew you were carrying... So your friend that you "shoot with a lot" doesn't know that you carry?  That doesn't seem to add up either.  My shooting buddies are some of the only people that know that I carry other than my family.

If this tale is true, it sounds like you learned some important lesson.  Oh yeah, don't worry, there's nothing wrong with your MTAC.

I could see if you were open carrying and bent over the counter, but with the IWB setup I have (CTAC) you would have to get through a suit coat and the shirt underneath it.  You may as well be trying to grab my dink.

Sounds like a good argument for AIWB carry.
