I finally got my CCW permit.  The Sheriff called today to let me know I can pick it up tomorrow.  Now I need to get a good holster rig.

I'm thinking of IWB but I'm open to other ideas.  I want as much concealment as possible but still have the weapon accessible to me in the event I need it.  I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II and a Walther PPS .40 as carry candidates.  I got the PPS for deep conceal and the Kimber because it's a smallish .45.  I've been reading here but I'm still clueless as to what would work for me.  I'm about average build and 5'7" just to give you some reference.  Sorry, I know this is a question that gets asked over and over but.... like I said, I'm confused and could really use some good suggestions.

you may have to try a variety of holsters to find the one that fits you and your needs

personally, i prefer and recommend a strong side, IWB holster (CompTac MTAC, Raven Concealment, Bladetech, Crossbreed, Threat solutions, etc)

I'm sure like the rest of us you will go through a number of holsters before you find what works best for you. I'll offer my favorites after many years of trial and error. For a shoulder rig I use a "Fist #70", it's a vertical style holster. I use a "Mernickle" high ride FBI Cant OWB (belt), also a good choice and at a more reasonable price are Don Hume Holsters, either their "JIT Slide" or "H715" both are very good and around $30. The FIST and Mernickle are around $100 - $135.

You're going to have a whole drawer full of holsters before you find the one that works best for you.  Good holsters aren't cheap.  Expect to spend $50+ for a good kydex and $100+ for good leather.  Don't forget a good belt, I like The Beltman.

Whatever you do, remember that a good holster and belt will dramatically increase your comfort and effectiveness in concealed carry.

Me?  I like Comp-Tac Infidel for IWB and Alessi CQC/S for OWB.  YMMwillV

Trial and error are really the only way to find what you truely like.  I've bought the same holster for two or more different guns and love it for some guns and hate it for others.  Desantis makes a decent (for the money) OWB pancake holster and I have them for several of my different guns.  I love them for my Glocks and Sig, but for some reason it is absolutely so uncomfortable with my 1911.  I use a BladeTech UCH for my Sig P239 and absolutely love it, it's my second favorite rig.  I bought one for my G29 but for whatever reason it's just not nearly as comfortable or concealable.  You can have different results with the same holster with different guns... trial and error...

Personally my favorite so far is my MTAC for a 5" 1911.  It's very comfortable and it conceals a fullsize 1911 better than I ever though possible.

If you can fit that PPS in your front pocket you might like that too.  That's my prefered carry method (PM9 / Desantis Nemesis) for all low risk environments (at home, in the yard, etc.).

Good luck!

Nice rigs and pics.

Good point on the belt.  It's crucial to comfortable carry in my experience!
