I am going to get my license to conceal carry however I don't know where to begin. I believe I need to choose the gun first and then the holster however I'm having trouble with even the gun part. I'm looking for suggestions.
I am 5'7", range between 155-170lbs depending on how much I'm drinking/eating and or working out with a 28"-32" waist. Normally I'm pretty trim and usually wear clothes more to the form fitting side rather than baggy. I'm mostly a T-shirt (not long) and jeans kinds a guy except in the summer where cargo shorts are the ticket. At work it is kakais and a polo mostly. I hardly ever wear a sweatshirt and only a jacket outside when cold. What gun will work for me that I can conceal easily without changing my style? I'd like at least 8 rounds and .45 although I'm ok with a 9mm as well. I'm leaning toward a Kahr because the are the slimmest (I've found) but they seem to be much higher than others. Any other options out there that limit printing? Thanks |
| hate to tell you this, but usually the CCW lifestyle ends up driving the wardrobe. Tight fitting clothes are usually incompatible unless you want to carry a fanny pack. Be open to possibilities. I can conceal a Glock 19 in jeans and a t-shirt during the summer. It's not a "form fitting" t-shirt, however. Also, what gun you SHOOT the best and fits you the best are way more important than how you can conceal it. Just a few things to consider. |

Pick a handgun that you can shoot effectively and one that is reliable. Work from there.
Determine what your needs are in the gun. You mentioned ammo capacity, are there any other considerations? Caliber, semi-auto VS revolver, etc. After that, its just working out details: belt, holster IWB, OWB etc. |

+1 to both the above
decide which is more important: your right to CCW and to have a weapon on your person to be used to possibly save your life or that of a loved one or looking stylish and cool
that said, there are lots of diff firearms out there that can be CCWable w/ most everyday attire––the key is a properly sized weapon, a dedicated gun belt, quality holster, and loose clothings as to firearms, like its been mentioned, choose one that is REALIBLE and that you shoot well i'd advise sticking to the more normal calibers: 9mm, .40sw, .357sig, .45acp, .38spl, .357mag; i would recommend a 9mm if you are starting out for the costs of ammo, the less recoil, more firearm/ammo selction, and such platforms out there to consider: HK (USP, P2000, etc), Beretta (storm, 92, etc), SW (all metal lines of the MP), SA (XD), Sig (P229, etc), CZ, etc Khars are great also of course, the Glock (G19) would be my 1st choice and recommendation for cost efficiency, reliability, simplisity, and longevity of use |
