Well I should have my permit in a couple of months.  I haven't gotten it yet because it really doesn't mean much to me as I can't carry at work.  But I decided to bite the bullet and do it, one reason was it allows me to carry a loaded weapon in my passenger area when I'm in Alabama (not a problem here) another is so I can be legal post SHTF

At any rate I won't CCW every day and I don't have a lot of bucks to spend on my first rig.

I would like it to be reasonable concealable, and I would like to have the option to carry a G19 second generation or G17 3rd depending on what I wear over it.

I would like it to be IDPA approved, and I want the operation to be as close to my competition rig as possible to minimilize the "cross training"

my competition rig (Cheapo Uncle Mike's injection molded on a cheapo duty belt) I really like this.  I've got a couple of belts that do agood job as an "under-belt" and I figure the will do a good job for holding up my CCW for now.

I'm looking at this blade-tech
Pro's: the IWB would be more concelable

cons: it would take much more getting used to

This Serpa

Pros: would carry similarly to my competition rig but be more concealable.  I like the idea of some positive retention

Cons: the retention would take some getting used to (and I might switch to it for my competition/field rig) less concealable than the IWB

Or I could just get another one of the Uncle Mikes belt rigs.

So any advice for a new CCWer?  Thoughts one way or another?

Just so you know, Uncle Mike's holsters are not IDPA approved - says so right in their rules.

I've used IWB Blade Tech and IWB CompTac with a G19, and find the CompTac more comfortable.  There's a sharp piece that covers the mag release on the Blade Tech that bothers me.

I've been using the IWB CompTac for the last 4 IDPA matches - probably will again tomorrow if I can get moving early enough.  It's not really that much of a change to go from OWB to IWB for IDPA - at least for me, but I've been doing it for a while.

I have a VMII also on order - frankly, I think the leather will be more comfortable than the Kydex.  I CHL'd with a 1911/Watch 6 for the last 10 yrs or so.

I have (or had?) that Blade-Tech. Not a bad holster. Not the slimmest design but not bad at all. Pretty sure I still have it though my MTAC is my number one holster for all my carry guns.

I'm hoping this to be the case.  I practice with my belt rig a good deal.  If I get the IWB, after a bit of practice, I would expect to start using it in pistol only matches.

For that kind of gun I like a Galco Combatmaster.  Very comfortable, secure, concealable.

CompTac with soft belt loops = $57.50 www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=68

Milt Sparks Versa Max II - $223.00 for 2 of them, including shipping www.miltsparks.com/ (I have my order confirmation form right here)

I'm tired and off to bed -I'll let you search the IDPA site for the sections where they say Uncle Mikes holsters aren't approved.

I like the Comp-Tac idea with the soft brown belt loops, added to the list for consideration.  Milt Sparks is out of the price range for now...

skip the uncle mikes

the bladetechs are good, but i prefer the CompTac MTAC or the Milt Sparks

TTGunleather makes a comparable copy of the MS VM II; the MTAC is very nice and 'fast' on the draw in comparison

Why?  Go to Galco's website and look at it.  70 bucks or so.

Currahee,

Comp-Tac MTAC or CTAC. KISS holsters that flat out work, with unbeatable CS if you ever need anything.

Forgot about these - I also have a Raven Concealment holster on order.  They're about $65.00.

I bought a Milt SParks Summer Special too.  Guys at Sparks told me Brownell's almost always had them in stock.  Frankly, I find this the most comfortable of all the holsters I have bought to date for my G19.  They're about $85.00.  If you are retired mil, or probably some other categories that I'm not amiliar with, you can open a business acct at Brownells, and items are discounted.

Here's another holster thread: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=10&t=62357

I went from 1911s to Glocks a few months ago, and I think I've spent more on holsters trying to find a comfortable one than I did on the pistol.

Join the club brother. Trial and error IS the only way to decide on a holster.

I've been pretty happy with Comp-Tac's CTAC for my full-sized glock for some time.  The MTAC looks pretty good as well, and might be a better option than the CTAC now, but I haven't tried it.
