After picking up 10 holsters from my Dad and about 30 minutes worth of playing around, I've come to the conclusion that there is a difference between a normal belt from JC Penny's and an actual duty belt/CCW belt, correct? My CZ-82 is the smallest handgun I own, most are full size(1911, USP, Sig 220 etc etc). Any recommendations?

I do not like the Galco Cop Belt I bought.  It doesnt have the stiff inner layer that I was led to believe it had.  It is actually more comparable to a stiffer normal dress belt.

The CCW belt I normally use is about 2x the thickness of a dress belt, and is VERY stiff. It works well. $50 or so at Sportsmans Warehouse. There was no brand name on it.

I also use an Instructors Belt. This has a plastic insert that stiffens it; otherwise it looks like a black ballistic nylon belt.

I use a 1.5" Double layered bullhide BeltMan Belt the majority of the time, and a 1.5" Wilderness Instructor 5 stitch at other times.

I would recommend either

Tag.  I'm in the market for a real CCW belt.

I've been using an old belt from the Gap, and it's almost like I'm not using a belt at all.

Another vote for the Wilderness. Don't forget that you want a belt a couple inches bigger than your waist.

If your carrying heavy get the stiffener. I am ordering a second one with the stiffener in it.

I ordered a Comp-Tac kydex reinforced belt with my C-TAC, it's been a great belt.

I too went with the Wilderness 5-stich.

I'm always untucked and didn't need a nice looking belt, but would probably get a nice leather if I needed it to be seen in anything more than casual.

I also went with the wilderness since it is a cinch and velcro belt. Meaning, I'm not limited to the belt holes to get my perfect fit as I lose and gain weight.

On the topic of the Wilderness Instructor Belt, anyone have any recommendation between the standard, 5-stitch, and CSM/polymer insert versions?
Seems like $5 for the 5-stitch is a decent upgrade, but I'm leery of the $10 for adding polymer if it's not likely to be necessary.

BTW, this is for a full-size 1911, both OWB (Blade-Tech) and possibly someday IWB as well. And if it matters, I'm thin--about a 32" belt normally.

Edited for belt size, not pant size maybe it's the lack of caffeine...

I see no reason not to get the 5-stitch upgrade. It's only a little more, still comfortable, and has a good thickness. But I've never seen a 3-stitch to make my comment fair.

As for the CSM insert I don't know. I didn't go with it as the site suggests it's for professionals who need to carry more gear. I'm pretty happy with the 5.

wilderness 5 stitch. TRY IT FIRST! because for the price, you're not gonna lose much if you dont like it. you can always resell it on the EE.

if you guy buy a $150+ belt and you dont like it, you might be out of luck selling it.

The Belt Man - with or without stiffner. I don't have it, and I LOVE this belt.  Great customer service - and great turn-around time.  They make each belt for you.  You won't be disappointed.

Unfortunately, LaRue's website doesn't mention the belt in my size.... I'm looking for a 33-inch, right about, and they seem to start at 36 or 38.

But still, which version of the belt is LaRue selling? the 5-stitch or 3-stitch? The slideshow they have looks like the 5-stitch model, but I'm not so sure if that's 100% accurate...

I have a Galco SB-3 that I picked up from Lightning Arms. I like it because it looks like a normal leather belt that you would get at a store. I don't care for the "western" look that a lot of leather gun belts have. It's nice and stiff and priced right at 63.00.

I also have a Wilderess 5 stitch. I like it and it's well made. When I buy another one I think I'll opt for the model with the plastic insert. I wish my belt was a little stiffer.

Another Wilderness 5-stitch user here. Only problem is that it doesn't suit dressier wear. Perfect for casual wear with jeans or whatever.

So, does anyone who's used either (or both) have a preference between the Wilderness 5-stitch and Wilderness with inserts?

Pros, cons to each?

I'm about to buy one, just don't know which one--trying to decide if the $10 extra for the inserts is more worth it than the $5 for 5-stitch, or what.

ETA:
Owing to my state of residence (), fulltime CCW is not a given (though because of my location within that state, it is plausible).
So, this belt would mostly be used for IDPA-type work, as well as some pistol classes. If that makes any difference.

I do not remember exactly which one it is, but I use a Galco leather dress style gun belt.  It is good and stiff and I am very happy with it.  It has held up well over the last year.  There is definitely a difference between belts designed for carry and those that are not.

+1 on the SB3. I use one for my M&P9c, M&P45, S&W 19-4, and Colt 1911. My Dad also uses one. You can find them here for $55.96 Galco SB3. He offers a 10% Military and LEO discount. Ive bought quite a few holsters and belts, and he is excellent to do business with.

Anyone have any experience with the leather 5.11 Tactical Belts like in the link below? I'm looking for a good CCW Belt for a Glock 19 with a C-Tac Holster without having to pay $80.

I'm in the market for a good 1.25" belt for my IWB 1911. I just measured a few of my suits and the smallest belt loops are 1.25 and the largest are 1.5". I don't have the funds to buy three belts and am trying to get one in 1.25" in black for the suits and a 1.5" for the days I can wear Dockers.

I have the Beltman double layer bullhide in 1.5" without the stiffener.  The black buckle is nice to.  I would recommend this belt to anyone.  Night nad day difference from a regular belt.

Well, don't I feel cheap!
I bought a double-layered 1.5" at Tractor Supply Company for a whopping $19!  (I said I was cheap.)It seems stiff enough for a tuckable IWB housing a .40 Kahr.  I'm gonna look into a Wilderness belt, however.  That one is about in my price range.
