I'm pretty new to CC. I have a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm compact and I LOVE it. 130 lbs with a 30" waist. It hides well and is comfortable at 3:30/4:00 with no holster. Of course, I need a holster--and soon. Lots of people here seem to be real happy with the CTAC. I was about ready to order one when I read some threads about the MTAC. Which do you prefer and why? It seems the MTAC is supposed to be more comfortable, especially against bare skin. But, I've heard at least one guy say he prefers the feel of kydex. Is a CTAC any more desirable than an MTAC when it's not directly against the skin? Any input on this is appreciated. Also, there was some talk in another thread about trigger coverage. The #1 reason I need a holster is that I'm not putting a loaded chamber in my pants without a covered trigger. |

I have no experience with the MTAC, but I received my CTAC a few days ago and I love it. I am 5'10" 190# and CCW a full size USP either at 3:00 or S.O.B. depending on how much I will be driving that day The CTAC is adjustable 7 ways to sunday or you could do what I did---Call them--they were very helpful and pleasant |
+1,000,000!!! Just got mine last week. Slide version. Prior to this holster I had made up my mine that I would only be able to carry small bug (P3AT type) guns. Took a chance and ordered one for my glocks...figured I could TRY my 23....I've been carrying my FULL SIZE 17 all week. Two final words for you... LOVE IT! I lied...few more words...it was received in less than 5 days of order! [;) MTAC ALL THE WAY! |
I don't see any issues carrying my G23 in the summer too and I am a shorts and t-shirt guy. I think with this holster it will conceal just fine. Also, check out this thread and see what I did to add comfort..... It's even better now. ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=10&t=53136 |

I've owed a CTAC for my XD-40 for the last few years. When I got my new 1911 I decided to go with the MTAC. The MTAC is much more comfortable....handsdown. The CTAC is a great holster, but the hard plastic just doesn't feel all that great against your skin. I would always wear an undershirt to keep it from rubbing directly on my skin. With the MTAC....I can wear it right up against my skin, and after a while...I forget it's even there. There are no rough spots that dig into my skin, like there is on the CTAC. |

Get the MTAC. I use a Crossbreed, a very similar design, and its fantastic. DO NOT carry that MP without the trigger covered by a holster, thats not smart at all with any gun, but an exceptionally bad idea with a striker fired short triggered pistol like that (Glock, XD, MP). My next holster will be an MTAC slide. |

Ordered my MTAC late afternoon last Friday. It arrived today (Wednesday)! I thought I'd be waiting till the end of next week. What's more is that I opened up the box, and inside the ziploc bag with the holster were two rolls of Smarties candy. Even though I paid for it, it felt like opening up a birthday present. Yay! ![]() Comments: I got the C clips with it thinking they would be less conspicuous than the standard clips. Now that I have them here on my belt I think they are still plenty big and noticeable, just as much as the standard clips would be. It seems that most of the weight of the gun/holster unit is supported by friction and only a small part is conducted to the belt via the clips. I am wondering if I might get sufficient support with J clips and if that would be less noticeable to nosy people. |
I guess that is the best fitment they can get with the full size USP. They made it right and swapped me out for the CTAC. |

I have both. A CTAC for my XD-40, and an MTAC for my commander sized 1911. They both are great holsters....but for a daily carry holster, go with the MTAC. The CTAC is pretty abrasive against your bare skin. I always have to wear an undershirt when I'm wearing the CTAC to keep it off of my skin. With my MTAC....the leather backing doesn't irritate my skin at all like the hard plastic of the CTAC does....and it also will flex and contour itself to your body...the CTAC is rigid. If I could only have one, it would be the MTAC. The only different between the two is that the MTAC had the leather backing. Even though my 1911 is heavier...I carry it more, just because I have the MTAC for it. |

Does the MTAC give you a firm grip of the gun on the inside section like the CTAC does? Basically, I want to make sure the whole grip is available when I draw it. I got a Leather IWB holster for my old G26 and the grip was a bit covered and even with practicing it was REALLY annoying to basically push the leather out of the way with my thumb to get a proper hold on the pistol while I was drawing it. In the pictures of the MTAC it looks like there is a piece of leather covering part of the grip but I may be wrong. Thanks Gents! |
With my M&P 9mm compact inside the MTAC I can easily get a full grip on it with my right hand while it is still fully seated in the holster. There is no need to push anything aside. The edge of the leather on the left side of the gun follows the trigger guard, then rises up to about 1/2" below the bottom of the slide and then slants upward to the rear base of the slide (sorry no pics). I have no experience with the CTAC. |

Thanks! I went with the MTAC. I went with the C clip but have standard Clips from a CTAC I had for my G26. What clip do you guys use and why? Thanks again! Riese
