I know it's been asked many many times, but here goes just for opinions and fun.

When I first started, I carried a 1911 for two years.

Then on a whim one day I bought a G17, fell in love with it and its been my CCW ever since.

I've got that itch again, and I'm thinking about switching back to the 1911 because lets not deny it a good 1911 is a damn sexy and comforting gun.

Should I stick with the G17, or buy a new Springfield MC operator to CCW

Damn.  I say get the MC Operator just because.  Whether you elect to carry it or not, that'll be one damn nice firearm to just have.

I would never talk to someone out of buying a 1911 but if you fell in love with the G17, wait till you get a G19 or G30. See if one of those doesn't end up IWB on a regular basis.

If you get the operator, make sure you put plenty of rounds downrange with it before you start carrying it.  Either way, carry whichever gun you think you will shoot best and most comfortably with when it counts.

I tried very hard to like my G17 and enjoy carrying it, but no matter what, the 1911s just felt better, carried better and shot better for me.

Determine which is best for you, not which is coolest, and go with that.

I regularly switch between my G19 and full size Kimber. Get the Operator.

Which would I rather own and shoot? The 1911.
Which would I rather carry? The Glock.
Why? Higher capacity, perfectly reliable, accurate enough, who cares if it gets dirty or dinged.

Not that either is a "bad" choice. I just like the Glock for CCW.

For optimum self defense application you need to decide which platform works the best for you and stay with it.

Do what I do and change it up frequently.

Maybe a gun for each season? Get the MC anyway.

Buy more guns, thats my motto.

Get the MC, but try a glock 19 too

I personally wouldn't go with the 1911 platform unless you train with it all the freaking time.  I didn't train enough, and I always forgot to disengage the safety when I was at classes.  If I had to use it in a defensive situation, I probably wouldn't be here today because of that.  That's why I carry a Sig now.  I shoot it better and there is no safety to worry about disengaging.  I think you should stay with your Glock if you can shoot it well enough.  Plus, it weighs less.  MJD

Choose a handgun platform and stick to it.

Switching between a 1911 and a Glock is not a good idea.
