Getting set up for my first CCW rig.  I have a Glock 23.  I'm going to order a CTAC holster.  I need to get a belt.  What width belt should I get.  1 1/2" or 1 1/4".  My non-gun belts are all 1 1/4".  Will a carry designed 1 1/4" belt be sturdy enough or should I go with 1 1/2"?

Get the biggest gun belt your holster will fit. This will help to keep your pistol secure and prevent it from rolling away from your body. I carry my G19 in a leather pancake holster on a thick 1 3/4 in belt. It is so comfortable that I forget it's even there. BTW 1 3/4 is the largest size that will fit through the loops on a regular pair of jeans.

But also make sure that the belt loops on the pants will take a 1.75" piece of leather.

I wear an Aker B21 1 1/2" belt. 1 1/4" are for if you are wearing slacks IMHO.

Biggest thing I forgot was checking all my belt loops.

Some are tight on a 1.5 inch belt and by tight I mean it is darn hard to thread the belt into the loops.

So part of it depends on clothing already owned.

These days I buy pants with bigger belt loops and I plan to order a heavy duty belt like the 1 and 3/4 inch width mentioned.

dont forget to also add on to the belt fif your ever going to use an IWB holster.  Gun belts dont stretch easy.
