Dude... who cares?  It's an official, authorizing document.  When the state starts to buy whiz-bang computer systems to make identifying documents like driver's licenses all high-tech, the costs go WAY up.  It costs 50 bucks for a license in NY, and 110 for a pistol permit.  New York is supposedly raising the application fee for a pistol permit to 180 dollars, which will actually be a good thing because such a clearly high initial fee can be viewed as an 'infringement' when applicants are using a couple days' salary to apply.

I was very impressed with PA service.  After I got my NY 'pistol permit', I went down to the sherriff's office in susquehanna county.  The LEOs there were super-polite and very helpful, and it was a simple face photo and thumbprint.  They gave me the temporary on the spot, and I recieved the official one in the mail two weeks later with a little note from the sherriff that said "Thanks for your service, Semper Fi."

This was a FAR CRY from the BS I had to go through to get my NY permit, or the cost... and all it is is a cheap plastic card with printing on top.

That's pretty ridiculous IMO, especially for an item that charges applicants a premimun to receive and requires possession at all times.

How much do they charge in PA for that, and how long is the duration?

The PA license fee varies from county to county, but in Susquehanna county it was only twenty dollars.  I brought two forms of photo ID (my military ID and NY Driver's license) and my concealed carry permit from my home state.  PA will not issue a concealed carry unless you can carry in your home state.

20 bucks and hassle free.  PA still has some things right.

Oh yes... all permits issued are honored in all counties in PA, including Philthadelphia.

That is the older style permit.  My first was the same way although they shrunk it and laminated it for me.  It didn't even have my picture on it, not needed.  My new permit is just like a drivers license.  Much better looking.

They Should be making the new ones for Out-of-Staters by now.  I just got a new instate one 3 months ago and it was on a card.  By no means fancy, I could probably make something better, but it was printed on a card like a D/L

FYI...........FL does not accept PA non-resident permits.

PA Attorney General will recognize FL non-resident permits, PSP supposedly will not but thats a whole other issue (PSP = PA State Police).

I'm hoping and praying for the day when reciprocity exists between all states... where a license to carry concealed is treated like a state driver license.

Is this true? I recently got my Florida non-resident permit, and Im in PA all the time. Do you have any other info on this? Also, back to the original post, my FL non-res permit also looks fake. Not as bad as yours, but still not very official looking. The worst part is that on the bottom of the bard, it has the name of the Fl State commisioner.....His name is Charles Bronson. It doesnt help it look any more official.

Someone introduced a national reciprocity bill I believe.  Don't know the status of it, I'll look it up in a bit.  But then again its not something I care for.  We (gun owners) are always bitching about 34 68 86 and how they are unconstitutional as they do not fall within the commerce clause or 14A.  So passing another bill that obviously is not constitutional is not good, even though it would benefit us.  At some point I guess its worth using a corrupt system if it will benefit us

ETA.....

Here ya go...  www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?ID=189

...........HR. 861, introduced by U.S. Representatives Cliff Stearns’ (R-Fla.) and Rich Boucher (D-Va.), would allow any person with a valid concealed firearm carrying permit or license, issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any state, as follows.........

The following is a post from Gary Slider of handgunlawus.com. A post from January 10, 2007 on SigForum.com

"I talked to the PA Attorney Generals Office today and was told that the PA State Police say that the way they read the law you must have a permit from your home state. The AG's Office told me that they can not make an official ruling one way or the other and it will take a court case or a change in the law to settle it. The State Police Web site has the following as the last Paragraph on their FAQ Page on CCW. I believe you could beat the arrest in court but it will cost you a lot of money. In my opinionI would not carry in PA unless you have a PA permit. This would also apply to any other staets PA honors that issues non resident permits. This really effects those from MD, NJ and NY as many of them can't get a PA permit because they can't get a permit in their home state. "

There's been some issues made over the wording.  No one has been charged (to my knowledge) with unlawful carrying.

It's like our issue here with schools.  Finally someone was charged with carrying in a school, every other time someone was arrested the charges were dropped.  Takes someone to get charged and fight it for there to be case law.  *PA law has the defense "other lawful purposes" in it.  Obviously no one has been charged with the federal law since it was enacted 10 years ago since it has no weight and has already been tossed once.  Congress loves to overstep its bounds.

What the fuck kind of kangaroo legal system is PA running down there?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a police agency derives its statutory powers of arrest from the attorney general of the state... shouldn't they be FOLLOWING THE POLICIES of the attorney general?!  How the hell can the state police amend the policies of the attorney general?

If this kind of crap happened in the Marine Corps, we'd all be speaking some foreign tongue by now.

Que?

Penn still leaves a lot of power to local municipalities. CCW's look different county to county, and hassle involved with geting one varies by county as well. They did ammend the State Constitution a few years back to preclude any municipality or city from writing any of their own gun laws or bans.  That really pissed off the Philly mayor at the time, but sadly that same asshat is now our Governor.

When I lived in PA, I had a carry permit(10 years ago) The permit was only a scrap of paper with no picture. The one I have in Fla. now is more like a drivers license.
