Im cross posting this from the NCHTF

I went to take the the Handgun retention class with Defensive Concepts NC yesterday. Let me first say that this was the fourth class I have taken with them and each time I come away with some good info and new skill sets to build on. Chris and Steve are a trip and make it well worth your time and money. If you have the chance, go to one of the classes that they offer. I don't think that you will be dissapointed.

But I just wanted to share that today I walked away seriously considering my carry options. Belts play more than role than I realized. What I thought was a reasonable/good belt turned out to be shit. Looks like I'm rocking my HSGI Croba belt from now until death or Underverse come. My holster choices also seemed to be crap. I was using a nylon IWB for my Glock 27 (primary carry weapon) for the first half of the class then switched over to a leather OWB Galco for the 1911 for the second half of the class. The nylon functioned pretty good but with no retention feature other than the tightness of my belt it felt like it was going to fall out every time I was on the ground and on my back. The Galco was decent but after I broke a belt loop it was sliding around from 2 o'clock to almost 6 o'clock and pretty much worthless, but it did have a snap retention which helped a little....not nearly enough though. Kant (sp?) also plays a huge role. The greater the kant, the easier it is for the perp to take the weapon.

I have Kydex holsters for both my 1911s, but after today I know that they can break (just like everything else) and once someone pulls it past the retention feature, it slides right out and the gun belongs to the person trying to take it.

Bottom Line = I learned a lot, shit happens, and I'm in the market for new holsters

I routinely roll with a blue gun in a Comp-Tac CTAC in class, and it's done well in that role for me.
