When I took my ccw class the instructor advised us to get a first aid kid and hide your gun in it when you cant carry. (bars, church, govt.  buildings,etc...) That way you don't have to hide them in obvious places (under seat, glove box...)

But a buddy of mine had a even better idea, so last night I went to wallmart and bought a cover that people use to put over there bibles.

It has a big cross, and the word BIBLE in big print on the front.

It is closed by zipper, and even had a peace of foam to keep the shape.

So, if a criminal looks into my car all he will see is a "BIBLE".

That's pretty smooth.  I saw a Daytimer/planner concealment device on Gunbroker that operates on a similar principle.  You're probably correct, though, that a Bible is less appealing to a criminal than a planner (which may have money or important info in it).

That is sneaky, but I still think I'm going to break down and buy one of those little pistol safes that I can cable lock to the spare tire in the trunk. Losing a gun in NY sometimes results in losing your permit for awhile.

Thanks for the idea qwkdrw!  But my wife is going to absolutely, positively gonna' go ape s**t when she sees it.  The ultimate disguise but when my friends look in my truck some of them may faint also.
