I have a question about a leather holster that I own for my 1911. It is an OWB Milt Sparts look alike. Its black leather, very nice quality.
In preparation for getting my CCW I took the holster out of my closet and was wearing it around a little, and when I placed my 1911 in it it was far too tight. It will go all the way in, but it is just far too snug. What can I do to loosen up the leather?I would like to CCW with this holster, and dont want to have to spend the $ on another one if this one is ruined. Any help is appreciated. |

Quoted:
Put your gun in a plastic sandwich bag and reinsert it, then leave it in for a day and see what happens. Mine was way too tight to begin with, but after taking the gun in and out with a sandwich bag on it, it stretched it enough to make it just about right. This. Whatever you do, DO NOT use leather conditioner that may soften it. |

In your spare time around the house, use it/wear it. Not only will it help the holster break in, it will make you more comfortable wearing it and more aware of how/when it prints. |

I just got my Lou Alessi CQC-S for my Glock 19 a couple of days ago. It was a very tight fit, worksmanship is excellent. It needs to be broke in. This is what I did. Put the gun in the bag and put it the holster overnight at least. Then unholster-reholster a dozen times the next day. While inside the house. Get your gun belt and holster and wear them with gun in bag. A weeks worth of the above procedure will do your holster good. Of course, while doing the above make sure your gun is unloaded. It is well known fact that we should refrain using any chemical while breaking in a gun holster. I'm wearing the holster as I typed this. |
