For an everyday carry gun (a commander model 1911) which will have a more aesthetically resilient finish? What other reasons did you choose one over the other? I have been carrying a glock for a while and do not first hand know much about blued vs stainless finishes

Blued finishes are a form of oxidation themselves and offer no protection against rust and corrosion.

Stainless guns resist, but aren't impervious to rust and corrosion.

A Melonite or Tenifer treated stainless pistol with a nitron type of coating IMO offer the best in corrosion resistance if you take care of it and wipe it down regularly with a protectant like G 96 gun treatment.

Others may disagree.

I've got the same treatment on my carry gun, an M&P .40, and after almost 4 years of every day carry in Florida, often outdoors while fishing or hiking, there is absolutely no rust or corrosion anywhere on the pistol and in fact, it still looks almost NIB.

I do wipe it down regularly with G 96 which I've been using on all my guns for over 40 years and they have all held up really well.

blued simply doesn't survive.
everything is a better choice than blued for a carry gun.

I carry a stainless or Tenifer/Melonite coated gun whenever possible. I have carried blued guns and they actually didn't rust as easily as I initially expected but the finish wears more easily and requires more maintenance.

I am a fan of bluing- I will admit it does NOT hold up well against the everyday scuffs a carry gun often has to endure.
I personally like a scuffed up gun with a little wear on it- I like the character it gives the gun. I usually try to only buy used guns for this reason- if you are asking which is going to look better over time and get less beat up then stainless or one of the newer wonder finishes is the way to go.
