Thanks guys. I try to avoid public restrooms but sometimes it can't be helped. I've found that GoGop's and tax_monster's technique works for me. I keep it in my pants with them pulled up to my knees. I have used the TP dispenser, but it could fall or get knocked off even if someone slams another stall door. Thanks for the input. I was just curious what other guys do. -YJ |
I can see that. You need to be careful but then again I have a 686 with a big sticky rubber grip. |

I find it isn't that big a deal for me. I haven't seen that many stalls where someone could see my pants down unless the person was on the floor or bent WAY over to see. I don't like to have my pants ON the floor so I keep them up by my knees or just below. If I'm sitting on the toilet, I loosen my belt but leave it 'buckled' on the last hole. My belt is just long enough that I can slide it past my waist and not have my holster slip off the belt. If I'm carrying in a pocket holster, I've never had a problem with letting it hang or moving my pants around to have the pocket over my foot (13EE, plenty of space on top). If I'm carrying with a 'thunderwear' type holster I just slip it around my waist to a strong-side carry. Same thing with a fanny pack, or sometimes I unbuckle it and either hang it on the door knob (single-person bathrooms) , or the handrail on the wall next to me. I have NEVER taken my gun out and put it on any shelf, t.p. holder, tub, etc. My gun is always available for me to grasp in the manners above. This works for my Glock30, S&W 642, and it worked for my Keltec P11, Ruger SP101 when I carried those. Try having something you can hang over your grip...like a cap, or bandana, or have someone make a small cloth 'cover' you can slip over it. If it hangs loose enough, the gun shouldn't print and you could probably get it off in a hurry if someone were trying to bust into your stall.... |
Actually this happened in the past year in an airport of all places. An air marshall left her weapon on the toilet and it was found later by someone else. |

DC Police actually have a general order for this scenario! Officers are required to unfasten the sam browne belt, and hang it around their necks while downloading the colon computer! This is a no-shitter, guys. I know, I used to be a po-leece, there. Just thought ya'll might get a laugh out of that.

I leave the pistol in the holster, on the belt, on my pants, and keep the top of my pants near my knees, and not around my ankles. The pistol is definately not gonna just fall out of the holster, and the only real danger would be the belt coming out of the pant loops, but I haven't found that to ever be a problem. |

Funny story from the Navy 25 years ago. The roving sentry on the ship goes in the stall and hangs his .45 on the hat/coat hook, after he does his business he reaches for the pistol and kabloom. The shockwave in the confined space spooked him, he jerked and discharged the pistol two more times. (He had to have depressed the grip safety and the slide safety must have been off, Navy personnel had extremely limited small arms training then. Regardless he was toast because Navy policy at the time was an empty pistol with three mags (5 rounds each). |
For a short time I carried a Keltec P32 with a clip in my back pocket. At a urinal it fell out and clattered along the floor. A guy behind me said "Whoops" and kept walking out. I was zipping and ducking down to get it so fast I never saw the guy... |

I gues this goes without saying but shoulder holsters are ideal for wear in public restrooms. No weight on your pants at all. Everything is suspended upwards..if anything it'd help to keep your pants up.I'd never wear one simply because they are more difficult to hide, and more difficult for me to draw from, but if I had to do alot of traveling and shitting in public places, I'd use a shoulder holster. I'm uncomfortable with the horizontal shoulder holsters, although they do seem faster than vertical. Barrel should be pointing down, in my opinion. -Jim |
