I recently picked up a CCW package to send off for my FL CCW permit. In the past I've heard of waits of up to 6 months to receive a permit after the paperwork was sent off. I was on another firearm forum and someone started a thread about a streamlined permit process in FL. The FL Dept of Agriculture now has offices for applying for permits and the turn around times to receive the permits back has been an average of 1-2 weeks. I decided to give it a try instead of sending in my application and waiting forever to receive my permit. I called and made an appointment for this past Wed. Items needed to take to the appointment were my FL driver's license, proof of firearms safety training, and a check or money order for $117. When I showed up I answered some preliminary questions on a computer to see if if I met the requirements. I then filled out the application on the computer, they took my fingerprints and took my photograph. It was very easy and only took about 15 minutes. Here is a link to the office locations. http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/staff/list.html |

I'm kinda envious in a small way. I renewed mine just months before this went into effect. My permit is only good for 5 years, as opposed to 7 for you. Mine took a little over 7 weeks for renewal, where you had your in a week. Sucks for you?
But seriously, I'm glad this process was an option when it came time for me to get my permit... even then, it felt like the total of nine days I waited just dragged the fuck on. I'd hate to wait months and months, when I finally get around to building an SBR and suppressing it, I'm probably not going to have fingernails or hair left by the time the paperwork comes back approved. |

I've also noticed that when you do it that way, there isnt an address on your CWP. Which if you think about it, would cut the cost of calling them and having your address chaged for 70 more dollars each time you move. I'm very envious of that! You never had to change your license you just had to (and still do) inform them of the change. You can do that online or by mail at no charge. Also all of the current licenses are sans address, mine was a renewal by mail. |

I always read stories about how long some states take. Makes me glad to live in AZ where it's usually under a week. Why does it take so long? Are they backlocked or just incompetent? When you mailed it in after the 2008 election, it took a long time to get your permit from the state. Now, it takes a few days to a week. Shortest return I've heard of is 5 business days. |
| How long did you have to wait for your appointment? I had a 2 1/2 month wait from when I called them to make the appointment till when I actually got to go in. I will say though after that I had my permit in two weeks. The only other down side is there aren't many offices. I live in Sarasota and had to drive an hour and a half to Punta Gorda for the closest office. Still better than waiting six months though. |

I also had to drive a little more than an hour but it was still less hassle than going somewhere local to get fingerprints done and then somewhere else to get a photo taken for the mail-in package. |

I wish TX would get with the ball on this.
Although its alot better than it used to be (I heard horror stories of 6+ month waits in 2008) its still at 1-2 months. It should be just like going to get your DL with the addition of a backgroud check. Leave with a paper copy that day and receive your hard copy within 1-2 weeks. |

I called in mid-August to schedule my appointment for October 13th (the day after I turned 21). My friend called the first week of this month and had his appointment set for the 9th. |
