| So I was curious after all the talk about the SLR104UR having possible complications with the twist rate being able to stabilize the 5.45 round after being cut down; what is the twist rate on the M85, and is it adequate for the 5.56? Also, are these able to accept those conversion kits that allow for the use of standard AR mags? |

Twist rate is 1:7, being in the faster range for 5.56 and probably better for a short barrel. AR pistol length barrels use the same twist, sometimes 1:8 as well.
With the SLR as I understood it it's not necessarily the twist rate that throws off the 5.45, but the barrel quality. I've heard people say their cut down 1:7.8 barrels keyhole every time, and some who say they shoot MOA. The faster twist rate was supposedly adopted in the aks-74u as an attempt to increase accuracy, but had no noticeable effect one way or the other. Or so I hear. Can't speak on the conversion, not familiar with it. |
