No one ever mentions the Hellpup AK pistol. Looks ok to me and it has the wood stock rivit locations for an easy SBR project.
Any comments on this pistol? http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct1117.aspx |

You are right; it really doesn't come up for discussion. I would venture to guess because of the price point the American built Hellpup is at (Basically $700 after shipping, transfer fee and bg check). What the Draco has been selling for in the past is substantially lower than that and folks can do their own mods for cheaper.
The Draco's also have chrome lined barrels as to the Atlantic Arms ad does not say anything about the Hellpup being chrome lined, just that it's American built. To me the market for the Draco has been increasing in price and now closing the gap in price between the two. I think the Draco will eventually surpass the Hellpup's price and be an overall more collectable item when it's all said and done. |
| I am also curious if the barrel is chrome lined. It has a section of rail mounted to the rear of the receiver for a sling attachment I assume. I would like to see a simple QD hole or braket with one. Also, what receiver is that? A Nodak or Elk River would be nice. The price is a little up there, but I agree with hL that the Draco will creep up there and probably past that in time. It looks decent. |
These pistols are Junk! Trust me on this. I am an avid collector and shooter. I was stationed overseas in a gunnery division back in the late 80's. I have 14 AK's. Both 74 qnd 47. I bought one of these last winter. I fired three mags through it and the rear trunnion was trying to come out of the receiver. I took pics, emailed the owner of the company. (Uli Weigand) They fixed it, shot it again, and the same thing happened. It pushed the rear trunnion so far back that the bolt was hanging up mid stroke. I can't beleive someone has not been killed by these cheap imitations of an AK Pistol. I sent it back a second time and asked for a trade for a rifle. Uli said No Dice, so I got a refund. IO is crap. The rear trunnion on the Draco's is like the one on an underfolder, theirs is cheesy and the rivets aren't counter sunk, so it just wallows them out. You couldn't give me one for free!
