Which currently available 7.62 RPK would yo go with?
Romainian AES10B or the Polish M64? Pros and cons of each? Which is more correct for a Russian RPK? |
|
I will say the Romanian, only because that's the only one I have had experience with. I have not seen the M64s 1st hand. I have read that they use Polish parts IIRC, so that may be a bigger incentive to buy one. My Romanian had canted gas block and the FSB. Easy enough fix, and after that it was a fantastic rifle. |

parkerized on the one I had. But that makes for a great base for some duracoat or whatever you decide to use to refinish it. Fit can be iffy. I suggest you inspect one 1st hand before buying one. If that's not possible, as many pics as you can convince the seller to send you. |

Copes also doesn't strip the extra mag Century includes like J&G does. Might be cheapo commercial Bulgarian 40-rounders but I don't care, it's the principle of the matter. I got one from Copes last week and it is the nicest AES-10B I've ever seen. Correct adjustable bipod, windage adjustable rear sight leaf, great flat finish (for a Romanian). And they did an awesome job on the mag well work. Usually AESes run large and you'll get a lot of flop but mine was actually really tight. Bulgarian waffles and Chinese humpbacks don't fit, but you know what? It's easy to open that mag well up a hair than trying to close it back down. And my Romanian ridgebacks all fit fine so I'm not in a rush to do it. The stock is ugly as hell, but I have a nice NOS Russian set that I'll swap it for when I have some time. Not looking forward to removing that buttstock. Other points to the AES, you'll get a scope rail. Those M64 kit builds don't have one. Also you get a real RPK barrel, not a US-made clone, and a foreign-made RPK receiver. NDS is good stuff but there's something to be said for parts made in the original factory. |

I'm sitting here thinking you guys are nuts and realized J&G is tacking on sales tax because I live in AZ, that's why i found it cheaper at Copes. Now J&G has the model without the bipod for $499, thinking of getting 2 now. I buying one for my girlfriend for Christmas
