I have a Vector Arms semi auto with a post sample bolt carrier conversion. Runs flawless. Hollow points, solid, soft points no problem.
Awhile ago I though the gun was beating me up a bit so I changed the gas setting from 3 to 2. My friend has some German gallery ammo (underpowered stuff with light bullets) that we shot through it and it worked fine on 2 (and 3). Just yesterday we were out again and I changed the setting to 1 and the gallery ammo still functions 100%. The gun runs very smoothly with regular full weight ammo also. My question is this: is this normal? Is my gas port eroded larger or what is going on? From what I've read, setting 1 shouldn't reliably cycle regular ammo. |

When I bought mine a while back it came with the gas setting on 2 . After a while I had a problem with it and sent it in for repair, well when I got it back it was set on 1 and since then it has run flawlessly through at least 5k. I called Vector arms and was told to keep it on 1,and so I asked what they did to fix my original problem, and was told some parts were replaced. They did not tell me which ones because it was a couple of weeks after I got it back when I called. This was done on their dime and it has worked flawlessly since so I am Happy |

The reason your post-sample bolt runs on the lowest setting with low pressure ammo in your Vector semi-auto action is due to several things:
The Vector semi auto RPD has both extra mass (striker) and a second spring to deal with. With a standard gas piston, the RPD will NOT run in any position. To fix this, Vector installs a US-made gas piston that has a larger diameter than the factory one. The larger gas piston allows less blow-by and is able to extract enough energy to cycle the gun on any regulator setting once broken-in. So, when you throw in your post-sample bolt/lower, your removing the extra mass and spring pressure and the gun is essentially over-gassed. That is why you can run on the lowest setting with anemic ammo. |
