AK Concepts has developed a Magazine Latch Extension that allows for ambidextrous magazine release without permanent modification to your weapon. As with all of our parts, these are machined from solid stock (in this case aluminum) and are 100% American made. You can purchase these items directly from our website at: AKConcepts.com ![]() |
These are CNC machined parts, not cast, not plastic. However, the bottom line is this - Buy one - put it on your rifle and use it (actual shooting) a few times. If you decide it doesn't make that much of a difference, take it off and use your rifle a few more times. If you don't miss it and want to put it back on your rifle, send it back and we'll refund your money. This applies to any product you buy from AK Concepts. We have yet to have an item returned. - Todd |
I don't know that it does compare? The guys are Red Star are awesome! Many of you know that I push the performance of their triggers like I have stock in the company. (which, for the record, I do not The two devices are simply different. I've never used theirs, so I don't know if one is functionally superior to the other. I can say the two people that have shot my rifle with it on there have taken one home for their own setup. Hope this helps - |

Now that's pretty damn clever; reminds me of the hammer extensions for the H&R single-shots. I'd be more inclined to try something like that, rather than the RSA unit that has to be epoxied, welded or riveted in place. It's also fairly low-profile, and looks like it would be compatible with the "use the fresh mag to hit the mag catch lever and knock out the empty mag" technique taught by Pat Rogers (I really wish he'd name it something catchy!). Curious to know which types of AK this has been tested with? For example, the shape of a Romanian mag catch lever and a Saiga mag catch lever are quite different. |
Perhaps we should simply dub the technique, "Pat's Mag Catch Slap"... ? We have put this unit on the Romanians, the Polish, and of course the Yugo AKs. I have a Saiga in the shop, but haven't tried to put it on. I will do so tomorrow morning and post my findings at that time. Hope this helps. Todd |

In response to the Saiga question - this item will NOT fit on a Saiga. It will fit on the Yugo, Romanian, Polish and the AMD65. These are the only versions I have in the shop. Again - if you purchase this item and it does not fit or you simply do not like the fit, send it back and we will issue a refund. Hope this helps. Todd |
| Got mine today. Did not fit any of the AK's I own. Tried it on the following - Norinco 56s, Norinco MAK90, Polytech AKS, Bulgie SLR95, and a SLR105. This thing needs to have the slot widened, maybe a fraction of an inch. The insert fits fine but to the hole is too small on the outer cover to set on the magazine release. Very cool item just needs to be a little more universal. Could probably fix it with a needle file, but just don't have the time. |
|
So it didn't go through the outside of the part? I only ask as the inside part can rotate and not allow you to insert the mag release all the way in. Let me know. We will certainly rectify the situation to your satisfaction - be it a refund or modification. Sorry for the trouble. Todd |
Not a problem. Check your PM's |
|
Has anyone else had any issues mounting these? I have heard of 2 instances where the mag latch would not fit through the outside hole. Removing a few thousandths of material let it slip in and fits great in one case and the previous post was the other. We've sold about 50 of these and have heard of 2 issues, so I'm assuming it is not an epidemic issue - but rather a bur missed on our end or a variance in thickness on the receiving rifle. Hope this helps. Todd |
| I was able to install one on my MAK-90 last week. Just took a little bit of filing. It fit on my SAR-3 with no problems at all. I like the fact that I can take it off and put it on another AK easily. The RSA style is a little easier to operate, although it does require you to drill two holes in the magazine latch. This adapter works as advertised and is a quality made product in my opinion. |
|
Yes... I apologize for that. I just found out that the Arsenal has a different latch. (More like the Siaga). We are considering making another version that will fit on this type of latch. In the meantime, please do send it back to us for a refund. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience. Todd |
No problem, sometimes you just don't know till you know, and with a rifle as varied as the AK it would be had to plan for every small difference. I only posted so that you could add that info to the site so others would be aware of the incompatability. I'll contact you on monday about it. |
Hey, once you have one that will fit on an Arsenal SLR106F (.223 AK) you got yourself a sale. |
Actually I would like to see one that works with the Saiga-12 and the Russian AK's. That's just what I have been looking for ... ![]() |
| Looks sweet and I might have to pic one of these up. OT but how does your guys AK brake do to the likes of either an A2 or Tantal style brake? Just wondering b/c if it works good as a brake and FH then I might be ordering one of these along w/ the extension. Thanks and keep up the good work! |
I did, it wouldn't fit in two of my Arsenals because the mag catch has a "bump" that precludes your cylinder from sliding up far enough. |
Sweet...might have to pick one up and thanks for the reply...however in the mean time...I'm definitely getting one of your guys' mag extensions! |
|
Guys, I ordered one for my Arsenal SLR-95, and as you all know, it would not fit. It only took me 5-10mins max, and a little concave needle file to make it fit. I just picked up a Krebs KTR-03S (Saiga) so I will be needing one the is compatible with the Saiga release lever soon! This is a great little reasonably priced add-on that makes a big difference. Let us know when the Saiga extensions are available Todd |
I don't honestly know if it will fit the polytech... do you have a picture of the mag latch itself? This is meant to fit the latch type in the image above. Hope this helps - Todd |
|
It does not fit my Polytech. I probably should have read all the post, as someone else said it didn't fit theirs either. You all may want to widen the slot just a bit, as there are lots of us Chinese AK owners who would like to use it, but it just does not fit right now. Good idea, and well made, just needs to work for a larger selection of AK's. Thanks, |
|
Hey ORD, I was hoping to have them in a bag and done already - but it just hasn't happened. I would like to say within a month we should have them - but it will most likely be two months as we are working on two projects right now that are very close to being done and we want to get those finished before dropping any more irons. Thanks for your continued interest nonetheless. Todd |
So don't put one on your gun. You should probably look into have the instant capitalizer removed from your keyboard, though - or check into a good grammar lesson or two. I can't believe I got caught up in responding to a troll. Oh, the shame... |
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see a response to this part of a question that was posted earlier:
Does the device work when this method of mag removal is used or will it being hit by another mag cause problems/damage? |
