Removing the old Tantal stock was easy as there were no roll pins and I knew about the manditory grip removal. Now, with the old stock out I discovered that the plate that goes under the pistol grip is no longer needed and can't be used. This plate provided the spring tension required for the old side folder and also helped support the whole thing. What I want to know is...Is the rear tang short machine screw the only hardware you reinstalled? Or, did you install a new tang screw for the front of the rear tang (the one under the recoil spring)? If you did place a screw in the front of the rear tang what size & type was it? The whole thing is tight but is the small original machine screw all that is needed? Thanks. When I first got my Tantal.
Then I got a Bulgarian stock set from APEX. Realized that I really didnt like it because of the bakelite upper. I wasnt going to spend the kind of money IWD wants for an upper. 
How it is right now but I still want to get a Bulgarian/K-var black ak74 lower hand guard and buttstock. But I had this lower and buttstock at home already so they will work for now

Other than the cheap plastic Tapco hand guard that doesn't even have a heat shield the gun is very solid. |

Just got my Polish upper hand gaurd from robertrtg.com, huge step up from the Tapco piece that was on it.

took off the lower tapco peice, and put on a Russian style hand guard. Also the RIS barrel mount.

First time owner of an AK - just picked up this sweet looking Tantal folder from Century Arms today. Been reading a little bit
about these rifles and "key-holing" - everything says get one with a "Y" in the serial number and you are okay. What about a "Z" in the serial number? Also on the side before the serial number there is 1994 stamped on it - not sure the significance of that either - is this gun that old? anybody have any ideas? Looking fwd running some rounds in it later this weekend.

Yeah thats the one im asking about. Didnt know any other muzzle break would fit on the tantal. It kind of fits. The barrel extends pretty far into the middle of the brake, which will decrease its effectiveness. I also had to cut my own detent pin slot in the brake. |

Not much action in the Tantal pic thread anymore, I guess they have kind of dried up. Glad I got my kit when I did.
AK Builder kit with headspaced chrome lined barrel and a Childers receiver. Matching bolt, carrier, gas tube and brake, the rest is mismatched. Heading to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots.

Put a few hundred rounds through it so far, seems to work fine. Went ahead and finished it with Rustoleum appliance epoxy baked at 400* for an hour.
I love the way this one turned out.
