I know I know, another Keyholing thread. I know what it is, but how much does it effect accuracy? Also, what are the other negative effects of keyholing? Thanks.

Keyholing can drastically effect your accuracy, even at a short range.  As the bullet tilts, it changes the way that it cuts through the air and completely compromises the B.C. of your round.  Also, due to the increase in drag, velocity drops much quicker which means less range, and less power.  There is probably more, but this is what I have experienced in regards to keyholing.

You're kidding, aren't you?

How much?
A whole bunch! Maybe a shitload? Maybe even a fuckin' shitload!

Other negative effects?
Geez, fella, the bullet is tumbling. What could be wrong with having the bullet hit sideways, or even backward?

If a clean barrel is keyholing and has been recrowned, it's garbage.

Excessive copper fouling can cause keyholing, as can damage to the crown. Otherwise, you're looking at getting a new barrel.

Is this a hypothetical or did you buy a worthless rifle? If you recently purchased it I'd be on the seller to replace it. BSW

Keyholing is the absence of accuracy.  It is a uncontrolled bullet doing its own thing.  You may have just as well shot it from a shotgun with a smooth bore.  You have no way to aim, sight or guide the bullet with confidence it will go just where you want it to go.
