Right, so I have set out to build an AK 102. I found most of what I need at K-var and other places on the net. but I have ran into a bit of a snag, or two.

1. Where can I find .223/5.56 AK receiver Rails.

2. I am lazy and don't feel like SBR'ing it right off the bat. What is a viable barrel add on to make it 16"? I would like some form of a dummy PBS-4 (I think I got that right).

Thanks for the help guys

PS: ... Has anyone else built one of these?

You should be able to find rails at almost any place that sells flats. I personally have not seen/heard of specific rails for 5.56 but I am new to the AK building world. If you are building from a flat then they should come with it. If you are making the flat yourself I would imagine you could just install the 7.62 rails and then grind them down till everything fit. That would be my guess.

As far as the fake supressor mod, I do not know since I was not planning on adding any mods to my Krinkov when I have the money to build it.

yea... hmm.
I don't want to add a dummy Suppressor. But I have a feeling that after I build it I will not have the 200 for SBR. so I will need something to tide it over a month or so. Dang Delisle (I think I spelled that right) set me back Way to much....

There seems to be a shortage of rails at the moment. AK-builder is out of the 4130 rails until about March 1st, which is whose rails I would use.

K-var only has 762 & 545 (ejector side) rails at the moment.

The K-var 5.45x39 rails may work as the diameter of the base of the 5.56x45 is only 0.018" smaller than the base of the 5.45x39 case.

You could always run it up to the local machine shop and get them to mig weld a bit of material on it. Then you would file it down so it has smooth surfaces and all you would have to do is heat treat it, and then file off the excess material (be careful to maintain the 90degree angle on the frontside of the ejector) to fit.

The only difference between the 762/545/556 rails is the size of the ejector. Usually flats come with rails and the ejector is to the 5.56x45mm specs which is the smallest base diameter. You just file off material to make it fit the larger bases of the 5.45x39 and 7.62x39.

My recommendation is use K-var or ak-builder rails as they have the swell for proper positioning of the hammer and the Tpaco ones do not. Plus the Tapco ones have predrilled holes in them which never line up with the holes in the reciever once you place them where you need them.

Perhaps try the EE for a set of rails.
