BASIC AK INFO Q: Is my gas piston supposed to wobble? Yes Q: Why is there a gap between the rear of my rifle and the buttstock? That's the way it's supposed to be Q: What's wrong with my 'bolt hold open'? Nothing, AKs don't have one. Exceptions being some Saiga rifles, and Yugoslavian magazines (which have a bolt catch built into the mag) Q: Can I install a 'bolt hold open'? Yes, it will require some work. Typically, they will all be manually activated. Stupid people shouldn't breathe
If there was a definite answer, I'd give it to you. I think the consensus is that accuarcy is more related to the quality of the rifle as a whole, not necessarily the receiver. |

trying to help a guy out but the parts count link is not working try this out archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=93&t=55169 cut and paste from old post OK, this is probably one of THE most asked questions: What are the parts that need to be replaced to be 922r compliant? (1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings (2) Barrels (3) Mounting blocks (trunions) (4)*Muzzle attachments (5) Bolts (6) Bolt carriers (7) Gas pistons (8) Triggers (9) Hammers (10) Disconnectors (11) Buttstocks (12) Pistol grips (13) Forearm handguards (14) Magazine body (15) Followers (16) Floorplates An gun can contain no more that 10 "imported" parts. The floorplate and follower count as one part each. Both handguards count as 1 part, the pistol grip counts as 1, as well as the stock is 1. By replacing the FCG with an American made version this counts as 3 parts replacement. |
I edit because I can't spell .............or type

I don't profess any particular knowledge of 922r (frequent users of the board probably have a better overall understanding, in fact), but I was curious, so I did a little research. Just for reference, the list of parts necessary to comply with 18 USC 922r may be found at 22 CFR 178, conveniently set forth at: http://www.atf.treas.gov/regulations/27cfr178.html Scroll down to Section 178.39. |

***EDIT*** i found it by accident here - thanks brian for volunteering to search - i think this is pretty important to maybe this link in the OP. http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=78&t=80299 can someone point me to the thread that had the write up on the "illegal" receivers - before i purchase, i want to make sure i don't get duped. someone did an excellent writeup that had info on the serial number range and manufacturer for reference - i just don't remember which forum it was in, and it was at least a month ago that i read it (which means my public search won't pull it)! thanks! |

What was that place that had all the Russian furnature and the deactivated AKs and everything? I think it was in England or something. I wanted to get some Russian furnature from them but I cant remember what the site was..anyone know what I'm talking about? They had a bunch of deactivated AKs like AK74s, PKMs, GP30s, etc. It was a foreign shop because it said they couldnt be imported to the US because of the ATF. Anyone know? |

Why the difference in parts lists? 1: From TITLE 27--ALCOHOL, TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND FIREARMS (c) For purposes of this section, the term imported parts are: (1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings (2) Barrels (3) Barrel extensions (4) Mounting blocks (trunions) (5) Muzzle attachments (6) Bolts (7) Bolt carriers (8) Operating rods (9) Gas pistons (10) Trigger housings (11) Triggers (12) Hammers (13) Sears (14) Disconnectors (15) Buttstocks (16) Pistol grips (17) Forearms, handguards (18) Magazine bodies (19) Followers (20) Floorplates 2: Arfcom archives, Jeepcreep [Site Staff]: parts that need to be replaced to be 922r compliant OK, this is probably one of THE most asked questions: What are the parts that need to be replaced to be 922r compliant? Found another one: AK U.S. Parts Count for 922r Compliance, theakforum.net, Moderator Kalashnikox Kalashnikox Moderator Joined: 21 Jan 2006 Posts: 134 Location: Midwest PostPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 4:45 am Post subject: AK U.S. Parts Count for 922r Compliance The 16 countable parts of an AK rifle. No more than 10 of these parts may be imported. (1) Receiver* (2) Barrel (3) Trunnion (4) Muzzle attachments(flash hiders, brakes, barrel extensions, barrel nuts)* (5) Bolt (6) Bolt carrier (7) Gas piston* (8) Trigger* (9) Hammer* (10) Disconnecter* (11) Buttstock* (12) Pistol grip* (13) Forearm handguards* (14) Magazine body (15) Follower (16) Floorplate The parts with the * are the most commonly available U.S. manufactured parts. On a typical stamped receiver rifle you need to replace 5 parts with no muzzle attachment and 6 parts with a muzzle attachment. On a typical milled recevier rifle you need to replace 4 parts with no muzzle attachment and 5 parts with a muzzle attachment, because there isn't a barrel trunion, it is part of the receiver. When building an AK pistol, these regulations do not apply. You can not have a stock or forward pistol grip on a pistol. |

The "Link" for the FAQ "How do I remove the Upper or forward hand guards doesn't work...
So, I'll re-phrase... 1.) How does one remove remove the Forward Yugo "Krink" hand guards? 2.) Who makes a 4 piece "Shot-Glass" flash suppressor for the "Yugo" Krinks? (7.62x39) (Threads are slightly larger than the Standard "Krinks"...) Thanks all, E! |
| Many folks had bad experiences with them when ordering (wrong item, misplaced orders, etc.). And priceis a bit high. Their ordering service often leaves a lot to be desired. But if you're in AZ and visit them at the shows, there's never a problem and they have a lot of rare parts. |

Another FAQ is "What does the P/П stand for on the rear leaf/sight
P/П as seen on some models of AK is literally translated from Russian as "Straight Shot" and corresponds to a range of 350m. Translated AK sighting device consists of a sight and foresight. Sight - sector type, with the location of the sighting block in the middle of the weapons. The sight is scaled up to 800 m (from AKM - up to 1000 m) with a spacing of 100 m, in addition to it there is division, marked by the letter "P" denotes a straight shot and a corresponding range of 350 m lies entirely on Grivko sight and has a rectangular slotform [4]. The front sight is located at the muzzle of the barrel, on a massive triangular base,"wings" of which it is nestled on the sides. At the time of bringing the machine to a normal battle you can fly to screw / unscrew to increase / decrease of the mean point of impact, and move left / right to reject the mean point of impact horizontally. [4] On some modifications of the AK, if necessary or possible to install an optical night sight on the side arm |

I browsed the FAQ list and I didn't see anything about stamped vs. milled. This is probably a dumb question but I got my AKS in 1987 after graduating from Basic and I just shot the heck out of it for all of these years in its stock condition. It is a Norinco side folder just like this:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_4_93/147781_Norinco_Type_56S_2_side_folder.html and I want to change out the stock but I need to know if it is stamped or milled in order to get the right one and to be honest with you I have zero idea how to tell the difference. Thanks for your help! |
