I won't give any opinions in this post. Just some answers to common WASR questions, as provided to me, by Century. I asked them these questions:
1) does Century mill out lo-cap rifles to take hi-cap mags? 2) do you have a list of compliance parts in these rifles? 3) does Century assemble WASR's from parts kits? 4) were WASR's converted from full auto to semi? 5) are the first 4 numbers in the serial # a manufacture date? These are the e-mail's I received from Century Most of the compliance parts will have a small “c” on them. The list changes per firearm, so providing an exact list would be hard to do. Some of our AK style rifles are made from parts kits, with American receivers and barrels plus other US parts added to them. Our Romanian ones come from a factory new in Romania and have the necessary amount of US compliance parts in them. They do not widen the mag wells on lo-cap rifles to make high cap ones, or if they did, they stopped doing that awhile ago. They do produce both styles of rifles. If you can provide the serial number, I can give you more detailed information of when the rifle was produced, its style, etc. I show your rifle as a new Romanian Hi-Cap rifle with the slanted muzzle brake. It was put together in August 2010 and was sold in October 2010. The 1982 isn’t the date, it’s just part of the serial number. Romanian made Ak’s have Romanian barrels on them. From what I can gather, we are not specifically promised that all rifles we receive will be completely matching with all of the numbers. Hope this helps. |

UPDATE !
The last post was questions answered from their Florida distributor. Today I called Vermont, and this is what customer service said. The WASR's are made in the same factory that makes military rifles. All parts are military except for the receiver and compliance parts. The receivers "are milled out" to take hi-cap mags. They make 1 receiver and mill it to fit both lo and hi-cap mags. The first 4 numbers in the serial number"is" the date of manufacture. They're made with "surplus parts kits". They have new Romanian chrome lined barrels. So gentlemen, what do we get from this? Is Century full of crap? or doesn't anyone there know what ther're talking about I'm still confused.....

Hope this helps.
My understanding - Your WASR was made from a parts kit in Romania. It was built on a Romanian single stack receiver in Romania. Century Arms International imported it in this configuration. They put enough US parts on it to make it 922r compliant. They also open up the mag well to accept double stack magazines (since it has to be imported as a single stack). They all have chrome lined barrels, including the new ones which have a newly manufactured Romanian chrome lined barrel. Some of them are numbers matching for the most part, and others don't have a single matching serial number. Sometimes they re-engrave or re-stamp the serial numbers to make them match, but this is all done in Romania. The date on the front trunion is when the front trunion was made and that's it. It was then assembled with those old parts so the "assembled date" is a lot newer like the CAI employee told you. |
