Does anyone know of any companies that offer Valmet clones or even surplus kits? Obviously if there are kits available it begs the question; are there receivers on the market? Thanks, JZ |

The only Valmet kit I've ever seen for sale was a 71 semi that had been confiscated in California and cut up. Finland still uses the Valmet 62 (there aren't enough Sako 95's to go around, and since they've quit making them, they won't ever have enough). They're going to use the 62's and the Sako's until they fall apart since there is no money to replace them, thanks to their purchase of F-18's They actually bought a bunch of surplus East German and Chinese AKM's for cheap to supplement the 62's and Sako's.If we ever see these as kits (maybe in 25 years? ), they'll be worn out to the point of being pathetic. The rest of the Valmet rifles were strictly commercial guns (all the .223 and .308 models), or limited runs for military testing (stamped guns in 7.62x39 ie 71 and 76 models). There were also a few Valmets sold to Qatar and Indonesia. Might see these sometime, never know. No kits, no demand for receivers. ![]() |
| I am in the process of building a quasi clone out of a laser cut flat from AR15.com and an AMD65 kit. The nice thing about the flat is that the front and bottom area of the reciever can be cut and welded to achieve the Valmet contour. The other nice thing is that the laser flat doesnt have the mag dimples, which the Valmets dont have. I will try to post some pics of what I have so far. I dont anticipate a quick build, but it should be fun and different when I get it done. |
| Sigurd, I heard that the California kit wasn't confiscated, but that the owner was afraid to transport it out of state, since it wasn't registered, and decided to saw cut the receiver, destroying "the gun". The price difference between the kit and rifle wasn't worth the potential legal hassle. |
Could be, I didn't remember the specfics...I guess if it had been turned in to the CA authorities, it probably wouldn't be on Gunbroker ![]() Either way it was stupid, he should have just made the road trip to Nevada or Arizona and got rid of it there. |
